2 should be MINOR issues with software

Postby 64Vair » Sun Jul 25, 2010 1:46 pm

OK, Love the new tuner software, bought it because I want to support this operation and $40 is a small price to pay for all we get!
Now the problems I am having (so far) are these:
First, when I try to make a new project, I let TS detect the processor for me which it does well. Then when I click accept, I get a dialog box saying:
"The correct configuration file for MSII re 2.88000 was not found. Would you like to look for it at EFIanalitics.com?" I tell it yes and get a message "Server unavailable" yet I can get on the web site no problem. I am sure this will be easy to fix, I just don't know how. (I will be updating to MS3 soon I hope!).
The other "problem" I have is the diagnostics tab is greyed out. I have only used this on the stim, will be a little bit before I have it in the car again. (Trigger wheel took off at over 4000 RPM, making some changes to the car now!)
Thanks for your help

OK, an update. First I found a post RE the greyed out diagnostics tab, and I guess my firware does not support it. OK. Next, I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and am able to start a new project now.
I do, however, have two complaints. My laptop is a pretty stable computer, errors are few and far between. Since I installed TS I had the blue screen of death appear 3 times in the last hour, allways with TS running. This does not confirm that it is causing the issue, but sure looks bad! Not saying there is a problem with TS just there seems to be a problem with it on my computer. Could easily be a conflict with something else.
The other complaint I have is TS will not allow me to choose where to save my files. I keep all my data on a second partition on my hard drive. This way if I enounter a MAJOIR problem with my system partition (ie virus, spyware, etc), I do not have to bother trying to clean it, I can just wipe it and restore all programs from back up. My data remains safe. Now I have to set up a windows briefcase and remember to use it to keep TS data safe. I know it seems like a small thing, but it is pretty important to data safety.

Look for question "Question: I am getting a BSOD on windows, why and how do I fix it?" on this page:

Thaks for the reply. I installed the new driver for my USB to Serial cable, will see if that works. I may install the beta ver again. When I did that before, I got the BSOD as soon as I tried to open a project. I really appreciate your help. Everything ascociated with MS so far has been top notch, I have no reason to believe that this will be anything less than a new major step forward.

Well, that didn't take long! First time I fired up TS it took about 3 minutes to get BSOD. I will try running program off line with USB adapter not connected and see how it goes. Hey, I plan on upgrading to MS3 soon anyway, so a regular USB cable should solve this if it is the problem. Of course, perhaps a different USB/serial adapter will take care of the problem too. Working towards a solution. I will post anything I find that works. Just FYI, I am running XP Pro SP3, with Norton 360 AV and firewall.

The server not available is true... I actually have TS making a call to check to the correct ini, but don't have the server call listening yet. That is a simple piece of code and long over due. I need to get that out there.

The BSOD problem is a bug in the prolific driver. It doesn't always cause it, but once it does, it will continue it seem. I had a laptop that was running with an IOgear cable (has Prolific chip) for a longtime fine for a long time, then it BSOD. Once it started, it would continuously do it at random periods. It is usually complaining of a resource conflict, so I think the driver is just not handling a potential conflict well and if it arises, you are in trouble. That new driver should fix it, it did for me. There was an old driver we were switching to that fixed it, but this April Prolific came out with this new driver that is supposed to fix it. If it isn't that sort of bites. A new cable that doesn't use a prolific will fix it for sure and the MS3 uses a FTDI chip, so no problems there.

OK, TS been running for over an hour now off line wiht the USB/serial adapter disconnected. No BSOD. Looks like that is most likely the problem. Will have to see about getting a different one, or perhaps just wait till I have MS3! Anyway, wanted to post results. If I find an adapter that works well, I will post that info also.
