Tuner Studio running on Android OS ?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Hey Phil....I know a lot of this is bluetooth....but I have no interest in wireless connectivity....is it possible I could use one of these?
http://www.amazon.com/female-Micro-male ... 421&sr=1-7
and from the adapter side just use my usual USB cable to connect to MS3(or from that to a USB-to-serial? For MS1/2)
My ultimate goal is of course to use an in-dash Tablet to interface and with my USB cable I have enough length to stand outside with the tablet during dyno tuning. I'm just wondering if the whole bluetooth thing is necessary
The trouble is in drivers for the regular USB cable, but I think that will have a solution within the next year.

Bring up from the dead.... I'm looking at these DLP-TXRX internal USB item to stick into my next MS project. If I was to get rid of the MAX232 and go with the DLP-TXRX, can I just use 2 of those little USB to bluetooth adapters, one for the laptop and other for the MS unit. Would a cell phone or smartphone/tab see this arrangement of stuff? Could it be configured to work?
Thanks Ryan

Ok really bringing back from the dead. I was wondering what the progress if any has been made on the Android version of TunerStudio. Some companies are trying to get Android running head units to the market finally, and of course it would be amazing to run tunerstudio right in the center of my dash.

This isn't IN Android, but it is on my Android tablet (Amazon Kindle Fire)
http://youtu.be/NqKEyFT4snU

Running Debian Linux (wheezy armhf), nothing special, all stock packages (openjre, RXTX that Debian supplies).
As you can see, performance isn't too bad, a little sluggish, but useable... Probably could be better with a hardware window compositor, but I'm still working on it.

Yup, hopefully it's fast enough for auto tuning, at the very least a good way to monitor and data log.

Good job seishuku! 8)

I'm looking for a cheap tablet (~100€) but I don't know if it will be enough efficient to run VE-analyse. Your video comforts me! :D

How many time can you run VE-analyse on the battery ? Is it hard to install a Debian linux version on it ?

It actually runs VE analyze decently, as far as I can tell, the battery will last at least as long as my ASUS eeePC netbook (about 1.5 hours running VEAL).

With the right USB adapter, you could power it and run it at the same time (USB y adapter).

So, do I want a Nexus 7 for the future or a Nexus 10?

That is all up to what your wallet can take :)
The nexus 7 is a pretty good piece of hardware for the money, on the other hand the 10 inch screen is nice too, but the price goes up.

out of curiosity Phil....would one of these windows tablets that are available with windows 8 or windows RT run TS well? It still wouldnt be my first choice, but might tide me over until an android version of the software comes out.

From what I have seen, The ARM based windows tablets would not work with TunerStudio.
The intel based Windows 8 tablets should work.

I take it you are more focused on Tuning capabilities than display and logging as Shadow Dash already loads TunerStudio dashboards and even msq's.

I just ordered the BT device and installed Shado Dash on my GS3 (running CM10), I am not connected to the car. I do not have the three dashes shown in the videos or do not know how to switch to them, I only have the GPS/accel dash. there are two other windows the gray/red themes but they are grayed out and cannot be selected for editing.

Must I be connected to view the "green" or "blue" themed dashes from the video? User error?

I am extremely happy to see this coming to fruition. This will be a great addition to my two MS'd Miatas.

Thanks.

Yes, you need to connect first as all those dashboards are specific to the firmware. They may look the same, but there are actually a bunch of them for the different firmware families. So you have to connect to some firmware, so it knows what dashboards to load.

chroot install or bare metal?
Don't know how I missed this...

I have beent trying to figure out what I did wrong on the N800, suspect it was just a precompiled version of rxtx that didn't support the latest Java.
Leave it to Debian folks to get it right :yeah!:

Still not sure what tablet I'll get, may run headless on a miniPC of some sort (allowing std USB<>serial, not thrilled with BT update rate esp on MS3) and see how TS runs remotely, using an Xserver on Android for the display.
(Should have all the std accelerations, I think... running on Android with the proprietary drivers)
Always doing things the hard way, MS2 sequential w/ v1.01 mainboard, LS2 coils. 80 mile/day commuter status.
