Table Tuning - Trackball, mouse wheel, dial support?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Table Tuning - Trackball, mouse wheel, dial support?

Post by bmbelo »

Hi there. Just wondering if TS supports or could support table tuning by the mentioned inputs. I use the numpad normally but if you're tuning on a brake-dyno or engine dyno it's much more agile and efficient to do so with a track ball or dedicated dial for instance. You can increment values and get results faster while focusing on engine output instead of on the numbers on the table. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you, regards from Portugal

Just use the keyboard.

directional arrows will toggle your position on the VE table.
shift+up(down) will increment the VE value up and down to change fuel trim.

once you get the hang of it it is VERY quick.

Interesting idea.. scroll up raise value, scroll down lower.
Could help in a one handed setup as long as it doesn't too easily make changes that aren't wanted.

Shift up and down doesn't work for me.
Will select more rows.

Up and down will have to be with . and ,
Any other options?

Shift up and down are used in 3d mode.

Necrothread powers - activate!

I gather from the date, and the fact that the mouse scroll wheel on my computer doesn't work to change the values in my copy of TS, that this wasn't given much of a priority. I have had a request for something like this from a customer who does a lot of dyno work and doesn't like the idea of taking his eyes off the gauges and engine controls; apparently big race-tuned engines can detonate themselves into garbage FAST. My initial thought had been to do it through the MS itself, using a rotary encoder connected to two ADCs. It shouldn't matter if the ADCs were already in service for something else, as the RE pulses would be short and fast enough to not affect the operation of the engine and controller (CLT or EGO or EGT would have little effect; Knock input would be a bad idea), but could still be picked up by TS and used to change the cell values - one RE pulse = one increment / decrement. I have no idea how hard this would be to implement.

The obvious alternative upon reading this thread is the mouse scroll wheel; it's an existing system already installed on just about every PC out there. There are some laptops and mice (mouses?) out there without scroll wheels, so the RE is still a back-up suggestion.

Thoughts?

Long forgotten.
It is not a difficult enhancement, I do worry about unintended changes. So it would probably need to be an option the user needs to turn on.
