Tuner studio display on stereo Head Unit?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Tuner studio display on stereo Head Unit?

Post by TruboSC2 »

I've seen this in a video and i want to do it. How do i display the gauges on my Head unit? If possible could i tune with it? If not then what small tablets can i tune with successfully? My Head Unit is a Sony XAV-601BT.

Thank You.
I have MS2 v3.57 latest firmware and TS software.

The best bet there is to get a head unit that is Android based and run Shadow Dash on it.
I do not see the OS listed in that units specs, but many of the newer head units are Android based.

If that is linux based, it could be quite possible to run TunerStudio on it, but you will need to get a JRE on it.

Java Runtime Environment

You would also need to know what Architecture it is to find an appropriate RXTX driver.

Android seems to be quickly taking a strong position in after market and OEM head units. I haven't tried yet, but that should be a straight forward install to run Shadow Dash.

Search Google or ebay for Android Head unit, there are lots out there.

I don't think so. A Asus transformer pad with Android can run Shadow Dash and Shadow Logger, but I don't think the windows ARM based tablet OS supports java at this point.

What ever happened to the days of Wintel domination? It was simpler :)
Now we have:
Windows desktop
Windows ARM Phone & tablet
OS X
iOS
Linux on Intel
Now Linux on ARM like the Raspberry Pi
Android
Google Chrome book
..

It seems like a new platform to support pops up every day. This was always Java's specialty, but lately it can't keep up with the new platforms and i can only port or write new for so many platforms :(

Having Shadow Dash on the tuner screen is a great idea especially for those people who don't want all sorts of aftermarket gauges in the cabin. Anyone of use would be quite happy to install an extra temp or pressure probe as long as we didn't have to clutter up the cabin with extra hardware.

I'd think there would be a strong market for someone to sell this technology. It actually would be in MS interest to promote a system such as this along with sensors & support. Might be just the difference to sway others away from the competitors EMS.

Hi Phil,

I'm new here but I'm fascinated with the shadow dash. Is there an update about running it on an asus transformer pad on windows 8?

thanks.
