MS2 3.3.1a and Win7

Post by mega_user »

TunerStudio 2.6.0.1

My old tuning laptop with WinXP and serial port is done. So i bought a newer one with Win7 installed and added an ExpressCard with serial port.
It connects fine on MS1 firmware, engine stopped and running.
It connects fine with MS2 3.2.5 firmware, engine stopped and running.
With MS2 3.3.1a it will connect with engine stopped. When I start the engine TS loses the connection in a second or two and will not connect back
until I restart TS.

Any idea what settings can be changed to bring TS online when engine is running?

I would be interested to see a Comm Debug log.

Thank you for the suggestion.
Do i need to just check the "Debug Log Comm" checkbox? Where is the debug log file placed?

The new laptop is much better then the old one, hopefully we can find out what is the problem.
The RS232 ExpressCard is an STlab card. I also tested it with AEM EMS with serial port cable and it works fine.
The same TunerStudio connection loss problem is also occuring with a generic USB to serial converter cable.

Dropping when the engine is running usually means there is an EM noise problem, but that it stays connected with the others, seems odd.
Was it in the same install that 3.2.5 was working ok, or was that a different car? It could be an issue specific to this install, noise or ground back perhaps?

When Comm Debug is checked on, then all comm activity is written tot he TunerStudioAppDebug.txt in your TunerStudio projects folder.
The file grows rapidly when Comm Debug is turned on. You will probably want to delete that file to start fresh.

- Delete file TunerStudioAppDebug.txt
- Start TS & open Project
- Turn on Comm Debug
- Connect to your MS
- Start the car
- Let it go offline and try to reconnect.
- Close TS and send / post the TunerStudioAppDebug.txt

With the old WinXP laptop with built-in serial port there was no lost of communication when the engine is running.
Now i use a friend's laptop with WinXP and built-in serial port to change the maps when the engine is running.

I do not know for 3.2.5 since this version was never on this car. I tried the 3.2.5 on another car that still runs on it.
This car is new on MS2 and the 3.3.1a. The older style laptop works fine wit it.

But there are good news also, today I connected the new Win7 laptop to another car with MS3 and latest 1.3.2 version and it connects fine, even when the engine is running. I also tried Comm debug option on this MS3, just to see how it works.

I will have access to the car with the problematic connection in a few days and will post the comm debug log file. Thank you for your help.
