Automatic injection time adjustment

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Automatic injection time adjustment

Post by masterx81 »

Hi!
After some test of a friend of mine on injection timings, seem that taking advantage of the correct timings can save a lot of fuel (up to 10%)
The problem tuning this is that you need to have constant load and rpm, and have some sort of feedback (the most simple is the afr).
Would be possible to check all the engine conditions, and do some sort of "autotune" of the table? While driving ts monitor the afr on all conditions and register it on a map, then tries to move the injection timings a check if we have lowered the afr (a richier afr means that we can remove some fuel on the map), if it's lower than before we "save" this angle on that condition and try another angle, and so on.
It can take a lot of time with the engine quite constant at all the conditions, but can be a nice addition....

Some sort of auto tune would be nice for this, I will assess the feasibility.

Hi Phil,
I'm the Enrico's friend that made the test.
Last year I built a little box containing an arduino nano, LCD 20x4, RTC, VSS and 4 EGT and SD card to make log checking also FuelPressure and Tambient... on the motorbike isn't very comfortable a laptop connected.
Well, made the code to find the best efficiency angle in various Load and RPM and obviously the major difficult is hold the gas at a constant TPS and find a very flat road to maintain steady RPMs.
Again, need a dyno!
But this is just an example I've done, to see if there is some advantage changing injAdv over the 720°.
I was very surprised to see how much Gego decreases when the sweet spot is discovered. In my case after 360°(when the valves opens) precisely towards the end of the intake stroke.
So we have spoken on the megasquirt.it forum, where Enrico has had the brilliant idea about an autoTune.
Hope you find a way to implement that.

Thank you.
