what is the diference between TS VEAL and MLV VE analyze?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Post by skikir »

it seems they do about the same but it seems they give different results. When should I stop tuning? When there is no more changes? Which one should you use and when and why? Seems like every time I use one they give me different tunes. like it is retuning it's own tunes. Also it seems VEAL gives me smaller VE values than Log Viewer VE analyzer.

unless they are both set up exactly the same with regards to filters and are working with exactly the same data then I don't think they will produce the exact same results. I think VEAL is better (easier) but I do suggest you look into the filters and make it work specifically in the areas you want and when you want it to.

I agree with slow_hemi6, VEAL is easier. TS has better visibility into your setup.
But there are cases where offline is preferable.

How different are the results you are seeing? More than a couple percent and there is likely something wrong.

Actually, when I think about it I would think comparing them would be hard to compare. first you would have to save the original settings then run VEAL and save those results. Then reset every thing back to original and run the exact same course exactly the same way and then analyze the log file and then compare the differences between both results. Sorry, haven't got the time.

But still, next time I run some tuning I'll take a couple of sets of before and after screen shots and compare them. But still, you would would think it would get to a point where there are no more changes to be made.

It is normal to have the "Right" table values change between sessions. There are many other factors that come into play like air temperature correction, IAT heat soak, etc.
The swing should only be a few percent, and that becomes EGO corrections job to fine tune for the current conditions.

If you capture the logs and output msq between these sessions, you can then use that data to figure out what environmental changes are causing the change and in many cases adjust those other corrections accordingly. However, in most cases where it is a small percentage change, it is fine to simply let EGO correction handle it.
