Just a further note regarding the USR serial/wifi adapter. I downloaded their testing software which uses a PC serial port as the serial device and was able to send and receive messages in both directions so I believe the hardware is functioning, I just cannot connect to my MS2

Continued progress/update: By using USR's virtual com port software I was able to get my windows laptop to connect. But no direct TCP/IP connection. Using Shadow Dash I was able to connect directly.....sort of. Shadow dash finds the address, connects, but the data doesn't come across cleanly and so after 3 or 4 attempts Shadow Dash goes offline.

I use the TCP/IP driver in TunerStudio daily, even across the internet. Never as a virtual comm port, So there is likely some sort of issue in the setup.

On side note, one problem I have found with many WiFi to RS232 adapters is huge pauses. The TS & SD TCP/IP driver has larger timeouts to be tolerant of this, but it will still cause pauses in your data logs.
This is dependent on the adapter though, some work well with few and short pauses.

Which one are you using on their site... I just noticed the one I use most is there.

I have MS's connected to them so I can use them from any computer home or work.

USR WIFI232-610 It's got more stuff than I needed (Ethernet and RS 485) but I was the first one I found.

Can I get your settings as they are likely similar?

I run it in STA+AP mode, I can connect either way fine.
I believe the settings are pretty close to default, I don't remember specifics as it has been running quite a while.
This unit has little issue with the pauses.

Switching to STA and using your settings where applicable got my Mac Mini and MacBook Air connecting very well indeed. The Win 7 laptop connects but not as quickly or reliably. Still no luck with Shadow Dash. The tablet sees the network and so does the app but its still getting enough lost/bad data that it won't stay online.

It also seems that I can only connect a single device at a time. I would have thought that wifi had enough bandwidth to allow me to connect 2 devices to the MS at once.

Is it your phone disconnecting from the wifi?
Android will often want to automatically disconnect from wifi that doesn't have internet.
There are ways to disable this, but some require using the adb or root access.

Nope not a phone, 2 different ASUS tablets a fairly new 7" Zen Pad and a 10" TFT300 Transformer that is 3 or 4 years old. But you may be right the Zen Pad DID seem to kick on and off line a bunch before getting mad and throwing error messages. I will look into disabling the auto disconnect
