Issues with possible incomplete MSQ burn, or other...

Issues with possible incomplete MSQ burn, or other...

Post by cwdodson88 »

So I've been having some wonkiness happening over the last several weeks and I thought that it was my USB adapter, or some noise issue, but it seems that more of the MSQ are being affected.

The issue is kinda weird. I go for a drive and make some adjustments in TS. Then after shutting down the ecu, closing TS, and then restarting the ECU and TS, I get a difference report and it shows the ECU having a ton of changes. There doesnt seem to be any reason or any trigger that I can find to cause this... But here are a couple tunes. First is my "current tune" and 2nd is the wonky tune that the controller has after the randomness.

There was a Burn Failed issue with TS 2.6.12 that effected MS1 and older MS2 firmwares.

This was fixed in 2.6.14.
Please try upgrading from 2.6.14 and see if that resolves your issue.

The above msq's were saved with 2.6.12

Are you running the beta as well and only have 1 of them upgraded?

I tried to manually re-install TS and the file kept downloading corrupted. So I downloaded the Beta version of 2.6.14 and that installed ok. Then this morning I couldnt keep it connected to the ECU for more than a few minutes. Any ideas?

It looks like the D2XX driver is throwing an IOException.

It would seem perhaps the FTDI chip is either loosing connection with the PC or resetting?

It might be interesting to see if you use the JSSC COM Port if still has an exception.

So my adapter is solid mounted to the MS box, then the cable is attached and taped in place, and I've made mu usb on the laptop a bit tighter and it still has issues after only a few minutes.

How would I switch to this JSSC com port? I'm running Vista.

In TunerStudio with your project open, from the main menu:
Communications --> Settings

Change "Connection Type" to RS232 Serial Interface (JSSC)

Then select the proper comm port.

Or if you do a detect, it will find the D2XX 1st, but if you wait a minute it should then detect RS232 and RS232(JSSC)

Well I tried JSSC and had the same issue with it disconnecting after a few seconds. I will take the ECU out of the car tonight and see if something is loose on the DB9... then I have no clue what else to try.

It sounds like there is a hardware issue.
I would look at the wiring and mounting of the usb module.

I pulled the ECU over the weekend and I thing the issue may be with the pins at the DB9 socket... I have resoldered all the joints and will test again tonight. If that doesnt work I guess I'll have to crack open that serial adapter and see whats ticking.

So I touched up solder on the pins... that helped, but didn't completely resolve the issue... then I was in the Communications>Settings and noticed that it said USB and Wireless... so I changed that and :yeah!: it holds a connection, and no more lost stuffs!

Bringing this back from the dead... Still seeing lost connections after anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes, and if it goes out, the only way to get it to reconnect is to unplug the adapter from my laptop. Then in order to reconnect I have to either search for the correct port again or sometimes it will autoconnect, and when I search it always finds 3 ports, and I've tried all 3 with similar results. Weird thing, when its on the stim and not doing much, i.e. rpm at 0 and just running a data log with tps at like 20%, it stays connected... last night I was able to hold a connection for about 20 min. Then get everything back in the car and connects, 2 seconds or so later and bam, offline.

By unplugging and plugging the adapter back in, what you are essentially doing is rebooting the adapter.
That sort of says the adapter is hung/crashed. The reboot brings it back.

It would seem that either there is a condition occurring that is bad enough to get the adapter, or the adapter has an issue and is more sensitive than it should be.

Have you tried another adapter or module?

Is there any high current in the box with the module such as igniters?
