Unable to use touch screen to navigate folders inside TS

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Unable to use touch screen to navigate folders inside TS

Post by Raymond_B »

I am running TS MS v2.6.14 on a Dell Venue Pro Win 8.1 tablet. I cannot tap or double tap a folder to navigate my way to a project inside TS. From the Help menu item I tried check for update, but it says I have the latest version. I noticed there was a thread about Win7 double click issues, but I am not sure this is the same thing. Also TS seems to think any folder is a project, perhaps this is the issue?

I am also unable to open projects via SkyDrive, but I imagine that's more of a Windows issue rather than TS since it is "pretending" to be a local path on the PC.

Any ideas?

Our head developer is out of town this week but if you could please post or send (to support@efianalytics.com) your TunerStudioAppDebug.txt file
I will notify him of this when he gets back. The file is located in your TunerStudioProjects folder.

Will do, I was at home for lunch when I was trying and left the tablet there. When I get back tonight I'll send you guys the files. Interestingly enough my 8.1 desktop and Windows 7 boxes have no issues, also when I RDP to the tablet and have a mouse I do not seem to have the problem.

On the tablet when I try to browse the file system locally there is no debug file created. It just wants to open whatever folder I select as a project and then error out. For instance I want to browse to my project that us in the default path of

C:\Program Files\EFIAnalytics\TunerStudioMS\Projects\Lightning Initial Config

But I cannot get past Program Files. If I RDP in and use a mouse it's fine although I have to spam click the folder to get it to open.

The OneDrive thing I think is Windows because my Windows 8.1 desktop has no issues, just this tablet.

The folder:
C:\Program Files\EFIAnalytics\TunerStudioMS\Projects\Lightning Initial Config
That would never work... That is a Windows XP era thing. Nowadays, applications do not have rights to write to any folder under Program files without a UAC prompt. So essentially you have to have a really old application that requires Windows XP compatibility mode.

So the TunerStudioAppDebug.txt is located in the same dir as your TunerStudioProjects folder.

Thanks for the reply. Understand about UAC, etc. That was a bad example for the path.

I created a new folder called Tuning in the root of my C: drive, so the path is C:\Tuning and then my project sits in there. However the real problem is the TS dialog boxes, they do not seem to be touch screen friendly or at least on my tablet they are not. When I open TS and go to File --> Open Project and the dialog box opens I cannot double tap a folder to navigate to where my project is. I can, however, do this outside of TS. To solve this I RDP'd to the tablet and selected the project. For now I just tap on "Open Last Project" :)

I can make a video if you'd like.

Update to previous post: Tried everything I can think of, but I am still not able to navigate any folders via touch screen in the TS dialog box. It works fine outside of TS.

There is trouble trying to navigate on a touch screen. The biggest trouble is that TS Projects are actually a folder themselves.
Then the swing dialogs don't seem to respond to a double screen tap.

You can painfully work your way through navigating to an msq as it is a file instead of a dir. But unfortunately that whole UI/platform was never intended to be pure touch navigation and there isn't really a silver bullet easy way to make it so.
