2.6.19 wont load project

Post by Suprazz »

Hi,

I have a project that I'm not able to open.

I get this error:
1 Errors:
Error: failed to load Comms Driver: 9

In fact, the tune open, but there is no dashboard and can't open communication settings window...

All my other projects are working but not this one anymore.

Can you export a project archive of the broken project and post it or send it to us?

If the comms is disabled, it sould like it is seeing it as a Temp project.

I'm having the exact same issue on two different PCs with a homemade FTDI230X UART adapter.

Have anyone found a solution yet?

No, it's for multiple projects. TS boots up, and if the USB cable is connected, the TS instantly comes up with the "Error: failed to load Comms Driver: 9" message and does not let me do anything.

The USB adapter device is recognized by the PC when conencted, and drivers are loaded automatically per the FTDI standard. I have tried assigning different COM-port# to the unit, but does not make a difference.

It does not matter if TX-D and RX-D for the microcontroller are disconnected, so it seems there is a problem between the FTDI chip and TS itself. Maybe TS does not support this chipset yet? Or maybe the FTDI chip needs some sort of configuration to work with TS?
Here is link to the datasheet:

What OS are you using?
Any Idea what TS driver you are using? (JSSC, RXTX or D2XX)

That FTDI Chips should be supported.

Running Win XP 32 bit.

It works now, but only in normal 232 serial mode.
If I try the "USB/Wireless" and FTDI drivers, it does not work. Besides, if the unit is plugged in, TS does not let me chose the FTDI setup - it's like the menus are not responding.
If i unplug the USB cable, TS returns to normal state and it lets med go into communications and alter to the FTDI drivers, but it will not connect when i plug the USB back into the PC.

Any Idea what version FTDI VCP Drivers you have installed?

Old ones did not allow you to use D2XX if they were installed. This is still the case on OSX and Linux, but windows works for both for the past few years.

Hmm, weird, as these chips are brand new from Mouser.
I have not installed any drivers manually. They pop up by themselves when I plug it in for the first time.
In the manager the driver version data contains the following:

Driver date: 12.07.2013
Drier version: 2.8.30.0

Seems kinda old to me...
How do i update these drivers in windows xp?

Just installed the latest dated 06.01.16 CDM driver which is supposed to have the D2XX funtion integrated.
Same error.

Tried to unsinstall and reinstall TS.
Same error. Running out of options here.

Could there be a java problem?

I have tried everything I can think of now. Tested on a more modern Win7 PC with all updates. Newest driver etc.
I have even tried setting it up specifically for D2XX through the FT-Prog chip programming utility. No change what so ever. Still works like a charm in regular 232 mode though :-D

Can someone chime in on which FTDI chip the MS3-Pro is using? Close up pictures of the package w. part number are welcome. It seems that my chip FT230XS-R is not supported by TS as far as I can understand.

On that note, can some of the TS gurus in here get me a list of FTDI chip models that TS is known for sure to support? I'm looking at respinning my adapter board in the near future.

I will have to see if the D2XX drivers in TS need to be updated to work with the FT230XS-R

That would be awesome if you could do some research there.
The package is like half the price of the popular FT232RL chip, and is half the size and more "modern" in many aspects.
Bonus that I might avoid re-spinning my boards :-D
I would also imagine that more and more general 232-USB adapters by chance will be fitted with these chipsets, since it's cheaper/more compact.

Hope to hear from you soon, and thanks for the effort :-)

Try replacing the file:

[TunerStudioInstallFolder]\lib\JavaFTD2XX-0.2.7.jar

With this one:
http://www.efianalytics.com/TunerStudio ... -0.2.7.jar

I have updated it to the latest d2xx drivers.

I renamed and replaced the old one it in the lib directory of my TS install.
That did not work either. Exactly same results.

However, if I delete the old D2XX jar-file and add the new downloaded one with its original filename instead of renaming and replacing, it freezes upon booting TS, like the name is not expected and it does not know where to look.

I'm quite interested to see how this gets resolved. I'm currently using the FT232RL on a few boards and was looking at the FT230XS and FT234XD for future versions. The newer chips can't be used for all applications but when they can, they do provide a nice price and size advantage.

Yes, with 2.6.x the file should really be named JavaFTD2XX.jar in order to be picked up.
Is that what you named it to? (Above I had the 2.7 on there).

I tried that new JavaFTD2XX.jar on Windows 10 in 32 bit and 64 bit and it seems to be working fine. :(

If it doesn't find the JavaFTD2XX.jar and the project is set to use D2XX, it will hang TS.

I just hit "rename" and removed the 2.7.jar stuff so that the name matched the one in the TS lib directory perfect. Otherwise the TS would not boot but rather freeze up. This was on the 32-bit XP PC.
I did the same now on my 64-bit Win7 PC. Same problem and I kept sure that the .jar extension stayed - although I don't think it matters.

Spot on, Jean. That was my motivation for testing this one out. Would be a shame to go back to the clunky and expensive FT232RL chip ;-)

The revision of my chip is "D" so according to the errata sheet from FTDI, all issues should have been solved. I have also tried soldering in another similar chip from the same batch with equal results.

EDIT: Does the MS3-pro come with the 232RL-chipset mentioned above? It looks like it on the pictures.
