I have a somewhat related problem, I think.
It went offline within a few seconds of starting a log, did this a number of times. Restarting TS reestablished comms, starting log caused it to die. I only tried three or four times before giving up, but it seems consistent. A bit of a shame really, since I had the chance to log a 3 hour drive with major elevation changes.

Re: TunerStudio going off line when logging
There is an Exception of some type occurring while writing a log record.
Any idea what may have changed since it was last working?
Any Firmware upgrades?
Is Automatic Logging on?

Re: TunerStudio going off line when logging
The MS3 has automatic logging to SD card, and has had that for a very long time. No firmware updates lately either, sort of got stuck on one of the release candidates before the summer...
Last log attempt that worked was June 2nd this year. The only change I have made is upgrading TS, I try to stay current.
Since the car is rear engine, forward controls the USB cable is long with an extension, I have had flaky connections in the past but that has acted differently. Crashing USB drivers has not been a problem since I ditched the PL2303 serial port and changed to the built-in USB interface.
Running a Lenovo X240 with Windows 7, all patched.

Re: TunerStudio going off line when logging
Seems well again now... Really can't tell what made it misbehave, nor what made it well again. Time of the month?

Re: TunerStudio going off line when logging
Setting the update speed too high can cause issues/random loss of connection.
The built in FTDI adapter works very well, but note that the quality of USB cables is all over the place, and price does not always equal quality.
If using the serial port, use a long good quality serial cable and keep the USB extension as short as possible, preferably none.

Re: TunerStudio going off line when logging
Yup, USB cable is definitely a suspect, but that doesn't explain why it came back every time I restarted TS and went down straight away after enabling logging. Flaky USB cabling usually causes dropouts of some seconds, not stopping alltogether.
Anyways, not worth pursuing at the moment. But I am wondering if Phil has a new major revision of TS up his sleeve, looking at the MegaMeet agenda. There has been a long time without any public betas, I really wonder what he has been up to lately!
