What is wrong with this ??

What is wrong with this ??

Post by Hellzone »

Hi, ive been having problems with my MS system and my friends. Ive been talking to Scott Thompson about my problems he said i should get in contact with Phil Aka Vett.
Maybe something was changed in TS long ago, im not sure.

I never use to have problems with TunerStudio version 2.5x or below, Hard to remember which version exactly.
I do use a USB cable to serial but im almost 100% positive that its not the cable as a tuner was using a older laptop with a serial cable and that would error out the same way.
What should i do. I have 2 ECU's, one of which is mine, the other is my friends.
Both end up give errors at random.

Here's a video of what im dealing with.

Lmk what you guys think, thanks.

What USB cable are you using?

I have seen some Chinese Prolific clones behave that way when used with drivers prolific from the past few years.

As you have an old MS1 with old firmware (yes current, but about 8 years old.) there is no protocol protection against comms issues.

The 1st thing I would try is using an FTDI based USB to RS232 cable.

If that does not fix it, let me know. The problem is quite concerning, however 2.6 TunerStudio has been out for a year and a half, so I'm thinking this is not a common MS1 problem or it would have plagued quite a few.. MS1's may be a bit long in the tooth but there are still many people using them.

Here is the cable, However this still happened with another Laptop with a true Serial cable. I cant make any sense of it, Nor can the person who built the PnP system for my car. Likely communication problems is what he said.

Could this be a problem with the firmware preloaded to the ecu maybe ?

Have you tried reflashing the firmware? Since the PnP has no issues, I would suspect the diy systems. Eithere there is a corrupt firmware, or there is a hardware issue. Have you checked to make sure the CPUs are seated correctly and that all pins are making good contact?

What is the application exactly? Is it possible that there is a circuit being turned on that will eventually saturate or over heat and cause the voltage to drop causing the stored msq to get corrupted from a brown out situation?

Application is 2 Mitsubishi starions. 4cyl.
No I have not tried reflashing, person that built the thing swears by it not being what's been flashed as I'm the only person who he said has this problem.
I can check the CPU seat and connections.
Also I suppose I will pick up one of those USB cables to try.
My ecu is in the oem case and uses the oem harness.
My friend has a old ms1with it's own harness.
