Bluetooth not powered from ECM?

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Bluetooth not powered from ECM?

Post by KW78 »

Hi,

I am slowly but surely moving our enduro cars (miatas) and some customer cars to MS products.

I have a MS1 extra 9495 PNP that I use the bluetooth module to tune, often in pit lane, and/or to run shadowdash. Works great.

I put another bluetooth setup on a MS2 PNP for 99-00 miata, and I find I have to use an external power source, making the pit lane tuning or Shadowdash use not too convenient.

I can wire the car with a 12-5v converter, but I would rather it work like the MS1.

Is this correct? Is there a software output solution or a hardware solution? I don't know what pin on the serial connector the module would need for 5v internal power if I need to alter the hardware.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If it's a DIYpnp there's a jumper you can solder in next to the serial port. If you want (and I recommend it due to blowing one of my serial ports on a serial card) you can put in a pin header and use a jumper to be able to remove power from the serial port when you are using something other than a BT adapter.

Yes, there is a jumper in it to put 5v on Pin9... I'm not sure this is your PNP, but think it is:
