Some general questions about what things mean in the softwar

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Some general questions about what things mean in the softwar

Post by kingtal0n »

Hello I am new to MS ecu. I've tuned a variety of other ECU so familiar with a majority of "labels and windows" but still have quite a few questions about what I am seeing.

Yes I read the manual and it basically says exactly what the tool-tips say for the most part, which doesn't help. I need some clarification, it should be very simple for most of you to recognize what I am asking.

I'd like to start by asking about the "initial idle valve" table. It has displayed some funny behavior and the tool-tip is very obscure. I could find a picture but I think you know which one I am talking about? My first question is: What is the Y and X axis true definition?

Temperature (MAT or CLT) Vs RPM. I am not using it but that is what it says when you hover your mouse over the axis label.

I think mine is messed up. I havn't had a chance to look at anything yet (hurricane is here) but when I do I will get a screen shot. thanks guys for posting up.

For me when I inspect tooltip/hover I get something like "CL update_rate blah lah blah" And it makes no sense when the engine rpm is changing the box only moves on the x-axis, and the numbers dont make any sense .... lol I will get a picture soon check back later :D

Yes that is correct it is the last couple of blah's that actually say "matorclt_follower" in degrees C or F. I don't no why the axis has to be labeled so complexly (cryptically?)

I'm not aware of how to make it less cryptic, TunerStudio displays the internal text.

I'm not really sure why there aren't any X & Y labels in the table definitions... Guess they were just never added....
That should be simple enough.

In closed loop idle control settings there is a selection "Use CLT or MAT in table look up. If you select CLT it will be CLT temp in F. If you select MAT it will be MAT temp in F. Your choice.

A next question then,
if the stepper motor has a 0 to 170 steps for example, but say it is clogged up with carbon and getting stuck in some places around 50 steps sometimes, Will the computer "lose count" of where it is?

Yes. It knows how many steps it has commanded the stepper to move, but not how far it actually moved.
