TS Program & Display on Dash ?

TS Program & Display on Dash ?

Post by benckj »

I'm starting a new thread as I haven't been able to find anything regarding this subject using Windows to program MS and display gauges within cab on touch screen. Most info in forum has been on gauge display which is nice to have but still need laptop to program (VEAL). With in-dash equipment becoming more intelligent they are much closer to a PC than ever before.

Has or does anyone know of an in-dash head unit which will operate with Windows OS, connect to TS for programming through USB, display gauges such as in ShadowDash and play music, GPS, radio, Bluetooth, Aux In, etc, etc....?

Not sure if this head unit would do the job but is along the lines of what I'm asking about.

These are pricey, but nice:

The things to watch for are real windows, not windows ME and not an ARM processor.

Thanks for info Phil. Maybe not on the cards just yet but it will come. Will continue using tablet & laptop until it does.

Could you not do all this with a raspberry pi? Obviously you'd have to run Linux but can run tunerstudio and could probably work up some kind of Bluetooth music Player?

I briefly looked into that idea using Pi but to me it was just adding another level of complexity which took more time and $$ to get going. I also looked at the Android versions of stereo head units much muck like Phil mentioned you need to get the right version of OS to connect into Shadow Dash. Most of the Droid systems only use a stripped down version for control.

As expected I need to learn a bit more about all these devices to understand the pitfalls. I'm still a newbie with modern technology so trying to make up for lost time. Appreciate all the help as this forum is one of the main reasons I went with the MS products.

This barebone model from Phil's recommendation looks like it would do the part. $689 is fairly decent considering all the equipment it would replace. Only going to get better and cheaper over time.

The problem I see with these all-in-one devices is they start to 'age' the moment you buy them.
With a seperate screen and a seperate computer (like a Raspberry for instance), you can replace the hardware much easier/cheaper if it's getting outdated or starts to malfunction.

Fair comment.

One of the main considerations I am looking this way is because I have limited space to work with (2 seater with mid engine design-MR2). If I have a passenger then the laptop has to be stowed away. Tablet is a little less cumbersome but still presents an issue on where it can sit an still be viewed. Running on the track becomes even harder as often I try and tune + run gauge display with warnings. Don't really want extra loose items that can fly around cab.
