Saving edited gauges

Saving edited gauges

Post by lutorm »

A quick question: If I edit a random gauge, say the VE table 2 VE analyze gauge, it appears I need to save that particular gauge for the changes to stick, ie saving "the tune" doesn't help? Is this right?

The problem is that when you click on the save gauge, you just get a save window pointing to the TunerStudio directory. Using the process of elimination, I've concluded this gauge must be the "veAnalyze_veTable2Tbl.dash" in the dashboard directory of the project that I have open, but that's not very user friendly. And I've been unable to figure out what filenames the "tuning & dyno view" gauges are saved as.

It would be nice if saving "the tune", also saved changes to the gauges. Barring that, at least a "save project" that would save all changed gauges. Or at the very least a pre-populated filename when you pick "save gauge" for a specific gauge. Right now there is no difference between "save as" and "save dashboard", they both require you to type in a filename.

If you just change a gauge in VE Analyze, Say the MAP gauge to Ignition advance from the right click menu, do nothing, close the app. Upon restart the gauge change will still be there. It saves automatically.

Now if you are in designer mode, that is quite different.
If you edit the layout of the VE Analyze gauges and want to save that, select "Save Dashboard". You won't need to know anything about the file it is saving it in.
If you want to save it to a file so you can load it to another gauge cluster, select "Export / Save As", then you will be prompted for a filename.

"Save This Gauge" saves just that gauge, not the whole dashboard. This is so you can load that gauge into another dash. You may be doing that just to bring the same gauge theme and feel.

I think this is pretty much standard to any application?

Oh, my first confusion was that I didn't realize that you could change gauges without being in designer mode...

But as for "save dashboard", it puts up a window that says "save as *.dash", without any filename filled in. It appears that you can still just click "save" in that dialog and it will save it, without showing the filename it's saving to.

I think I was confused because the standard behavior, at least in MacOS, is that "save" usually doesn't open a dialog at all, it just saves, while "save as" opens a dialog asking for a filename.

That save dash should probably be disabled on those secondary dashboards, it has no purpose.
