Microsquirt to TS connection issues.

Microsquirt to TS connection issues.

Post by vacca rabite »

Seems to be a common issue.
This laptop would connect to the Microsquirt as late a june of last year.

Here is what I am getting from PortCheck
PortCheck.GIF
I am using a serial to USB adapter. The adapter worked last year, so I think it should work this year.
I am running the 3.83b code, and have the associated INI in my tuning file.

I have updated all my Serial drivers.
I have updated my USB drivers.

I do not remember all the tricks to connect - I do recall I had issues last year connecting at first and had to monkey with the settings in order to get it to work.

Help!

Check that your USB-serial adapter is showing up under Device Manager

Follow the other steps with the loopback test etc.

Followed the other tests.

I jumped pins 2/3 on my Microsquirt cable and the loop back test was successful.

When I hooked it up to the car and tried the loop back test for the ECU using the mini terminal I got no love.

So it looks like my laptop and cable are checking out, but the connection from the harness or the ECU isn't.

This car runs, so the ECU is working and its getting sensor data through the harness.

What else can I try?

Are the COM settings that I posted up earlier correct? I know I have the right BAUD, but I remember reading something somewhere about the parity and buffer.

May have found the issue, but I'm too tired and my eyes are crossing to attempt fixing it tonight.

I pulled the Ampseal off the ECU and there is no continuity from the Ampseal connector to the 3.5mm minijack.
I know the car was able to connect with my tuner. But something may have been dislodged as it was coming back to me. I'll open it up tomorrow and test continuity from the actual wire.

I am just stuck now.

I now have full continuity between the Ampseal connector and the DB9 port on the serial cable.
Loopback works using miniterminal when the serial cable is shorted.
Loopback does NOT work as soon as I plug in the Microsquirt ECU.

I've gone through every help page I could find.
I don't have another laptop I can try.
I don't have anything with a native serial cable to remove the USB adapter issue.
I am stuck and frustrated.

The ECU is working. The car starts just fine. I just can't connect to it to tune it.
The last guy that tuned the car is about 700 miles away, so he can't just pop over to show me what he was doing.

I DO have bluetooth on my laptop.
Is it worth trying to get one of those Bluetooth adapters that they are selling at DIY Autotune and using that to connect to my Microsquirt ECU?

The Bluetooth dongle connects to the Microsquirt serial port using the same wires you are reporting problems with. You would be no further forwards.

Still at it.

On the chance that the rs232 adapter was bad I bought the one from DIY Autotune that has been proven to work and have the correct FDTI chipset.

I've talked to the tuner and he confirmed that he was able to talk to the ECU without a problem.

If anyone can think of other things I can try, I'd really like the advice.

To date:
all drivers are up to date.
All software is up to date (including Tuner Studio which just updated this evening).
RS232 adapter is a known good version from DIY autotune.
I do not have another laptop that I can try to connect. :-/
I have tested loop back from the RS232 to Minijack cable - success.
I have tested loopback to the ECU via Mini-terminal - failure.
I have used Portcheck - which found an open port, but no ECU.
If I turn on the car, the car runs and drives (sort of, it still needs some tuning, but I can drive it around my shop area)
Two other people, using two other computers, have talked to my ECU successfully.
I have tried to connect using the RS232 option in Tuner Studio, and the FDTI option - neither work.
I've gone through the steps in the help page. No joy.

Really frustrated. Anything else that can be tested or tired will be helpful.
I think I have to have a setting off in my serial settings. Can anyone verify??

I bought an older laptop with a built in native serial port. (Dell D630). This is the same type of laptop that my tuner used.
In the Miniterminal, with the ignition on and the Microsquirt powered up, it is acting like its doing a successful loopback test. IE, anything I type into the upper window is looped back to the lower window, just like I had jumped the pins for a loopback test.

The cable does not do this on its own - it has to be plugged into the Microsquirt ECU.
I loaded up the newest versions of tuner studio and made sure my port settings were correct.

Hopefully this gets me closer to being able to connect.

Am I asking questions in the right place/forum? Is there something I'm not doing in order to get responses?
Is there a tech support line I can call or email to try and get some help?

Do I just smell bad? ;-)

I don't think anyone is helping because above it appeared you found the problem, a lack of continuity in the harness or ampseal.

So then it would seem you either need to fix it or contact the distributor you purchased it from.
