Yeah I have done all of that.
Disabled UAC and Windows Defender in my effort to see what's wrong.
It looks like a Java error?
It get a EXCEPTION ACCESS VIOLATION.
Problomatic frame is "msvcr100.dll+0x121f4"
See log files to see more.
I don't really know why I'm looking at.

But thanks for the help!

Sure does look like a Java error. I thought all the recent TS versions have Java as part of the install. I have always installed Java separately.

Install Java Runtime. Download link is near the top.

OS: Windows 10.0 , 64 bit Build 15063 (10.0.15063.296)
This is the latest Win10 version & TS works on mine, i.e. not a Windows problem.

I have both x86 and x64 JRE.
I have tried it with just one or the other.
You can see in one of the Logs it is using the Java that is in the .Lib folder in the TunerStudio application folder.
I tried running it using the Java that is installed on my computer and it still gives the same error.
Thanks for trying!

I am going to install a VM when I get home and see if it works in that environment.

Connecting with USB or Bluetooth or offline?

Offline. But I don't even get into the application. It just shows the splash screen for 2 seconds then disappears.

When starting by the icon, TS will use the JRE that is bundled with TS, it won't use and Java you may have installed.

If you go to the install folder and start it by double clicking the TunerStudio<S.jar file, then it will run on the Java you have installed.
Trying that would rule out any trouble with the JRE.

The last lines in the log before disappearing appears to be "Initializing File Dialogs."

Is there anything unusual about your windows?

Running the JAR does not even open the splash screen. And does not leave a error log.
It opens what looks like a terminal window for a fraction of a second.
Windows was just installed.
Windows 10 Home Edition Single Language.
All up to date. Legitimate registered.
Other JRE programs work.

Try going to the folder:

c:\Users\[yourUserName]\.efiAnalytics\

rename the file: tsUser.properties

Try to start TS, see if that fixes it. If it does, please send me the renamed tsUser.properties

Here is the .properties.
tsUser.properties.h
the folder also includes a .reg file that cannot be added to the registry, i'm not sure if it is supposed to be.
I cannot find any registry keys in the registry related to EFIanalytics or TunerStudio. i dont know if it helps.

i am downloading an ISO of windows to install onto a VirtualBox.
Ran a SFC scan and a DISM scan on my windows installation and everything checked out okay.
if it runs on the Virtual Box i will run a repair install.

Thanks a lot Phil for helping me out, its kinda cool to have the developer actually participate in this troubleshooting!

Running a repair install.
Will keep everyone up to date.

Update: Repair install did not work.
Wiping it all and reinstalling.
Should be quick.
Running from an SSD and using a USB3.0 flash drive for the windows 10 .ISO

Did not work.
Also tried to run archived beta versions all the way back to 2.5.01.
They don't work and provide almost the same crash log.

Update: works in virtual Windows 10.
I have no idea what is happening.
Looks like it can't access a file?

The .reg file holds your registration info, it doesn't go in the registry. TS doesn't make any updates to the registry it is self contained.
Every thing it uses out side of the install files (that are never altered other than during an update) is the tsUser.properties, tsMS.reg and the project folders.
so deleteing the tsUser.properties file essentially puts everything back to default settings and does what people are usually trying to accomplish when they uninstall and reinstall.
Looking at your tsUser.properties file, it looks to be a new install with everything already set to the defaults.

It does look to be bombing while initializing the File Dialogs

Code: Select all

EBX={method} {0x262e140c} 'getDisplayNameOf' '(JJI)Ljava/lang/String;' in 'sun/awt/shell/Win32ShellFolder2'
I saw a similar issue years ago on XP if using Windows Classic look and feel. You are on the default cross platform MetalLook & Feel though.
I'm not sure why your laptop would be opposed to the JRE making the above call.

I do see a bug report on this though:
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8178873

But this doesn't seem to be happening to most PC's so there must be some condition to trigger it.

From what I see, the issue is related to Look and Feel.

Try replacing your tsUser.properties file with the attached. It will set your Look & Feel to Nimbus which supposedly isn't impacted by the bug

That did not work.
But it works if I use the hidden Admin account!! If that works it's good enough for me.
Just use a command prompt to activate it every time I want to use it.
It's for my desktop so it will be only for bench flashing. But I need it because the files to flash new firmware onto MS1 v2.2 are .BAT

On a separate note, I killed my MS.
Pin 28 (12V in) shorted to pin 26 (Vref and VCC for CPU)
Probably need a new CPU, 5V Reg, and MAP.
Those are directly connected to Vref. Serial chip might be bad too.
