Hi again

Replaced the MAX232 chip this afternoon, powered MS back up and instantly reestablished communications, which lasted for +/- 10 seconds before the Protocol Error box lit back up & the Invalid Data error message reappeared. Pretty sure from here on out the problem is not corrupt firmware, TunerStudio nor the serial adapter I'm using.

Just prior to this happening last week I had sent the unit to the NZ Megasquirt supplier (PM for details if required) to have the a VR conditioner installed as the opto circuit controlling the hall crank sensor had failed. Is there any chance the new board ( same as the board here http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 67&t=39790 ) could be the reason behind the serial chips failing? does seem very strange to have related the failure immediately after installing the new MAX232 chip? Its obscured in the photo, but the white wire from the VR board is jumpered straight to pin #1 of the DB37 connector.

Apologies for the poor quality photos

Thanks

Post #14 from jsmcortina.......is this likely to be the root cause of my problem?
