Feature Discussion/Suggestion: VEAL Auto-Smooth

Feature Discussion/Suggestion: VEAL Auto-Smooth

Post by 5.0Thunder »

As we utilize the VEAL tool during tuning, the map generated can typically be peaky. After every tuning session I go inside and smooth things out manually based on what the engine is wanting in certain areas and if those areas were swept a lot during the session. Would it be wise to incorporate auto-smoothing into the VEAL feature that factors in hit-counts, interpolations between cells, etc.?

I'm about to have some load bearing dyno time where I want to experiment with using VEAL while targeting single cells and the auto-smoothing feature would be handy here. I think i'd basically be able to just let the engine run in each cell and not really touch anything but the "save" buttons.

I also have a suggestion.... with Ms you can toggle outputs on and off to test. I don't know of that function on this board. I was able to test the controller I just built by faking a vss signal and running it thru it's paces but it would have been nice to just turn things on and off while on the bench...

^^ May be better to post a new thread since that's a different feature.

I've often wondered about this feature. Would be nice to enable and disable the smoothing if it was implemented.

There is already a smoothing function. Just go to the map, highlight and hit the button.

Woah, this will throw stuff out of whack. Areas that are perfect and already smooth will be elevated or decreased, throwing AFR's off. Idle area would be increased, lots of things you don't want to touch will be modified.

Using the hit count during VEAL and targeting only the cells around your corrected area should keep all that from happening. I'm sure there is a more elegant and useful way of doing it that these guys are working on.

Yeah, the smoothing should be limited to cells that have a very low hit count. However, this would require recording how often the cells have been hit in previous tuning sessions or you could only use it once.
