TPS Gauge.

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

TPS Gauge.

Post by 107merc »

Works fine in T/S with the JimStim but when trying to calibrate on the car, it seems to be backwards. This is a Ford T/B and TPS.
Prior to calibrating, closed throttle reading is about 30%, opening the throttle drops the gauge to 0%. Am positive we have the correct
TPS for the throttle body. Have bench tested the 3 I have and all go from 1 volt at closed to .2V at wide open.
Is there a TPS setup that I missed, what am I doing wrong?? Thanks.

Sounds like it's just wired backwards. The center is the sensor back to the ecu, so swap the end wires

In case anyone else has the same problem, the answer is ignore the wiring diagram shown at
section 3.4.5 in the MS extra manual. In the Ford TPS anyway B is the center pin that sends signal to the ECU,
A is sensor ground and C is +5V. Not quite what is shown.

The photo shows a TPS from a GM LM7 engine.

Have to thank everyone who has responded to my basic questions.
Am finally grasping that a fairly high level of knowledge of engine tuning is assumed for anyone
contemplating converting to MS. That's unfortunate, I think there is a much broader market
out there for folks, like me, who are interested but get frustrated by problems just like that.
It has certainly turned off friends of mine watching me.
How about a "Megasquirt for Dummies" manual?? Would sell like crazy.

I think when people ask for "step by step", "getting started", "xxx for dummies", etc etc guides that's simply another way of saying I don't want to go through the manual fully. How in any way could another manual have helped? You had an OEM TPS wired incorrectly.

Really how is that the Megasquirt's fault?

Heck, why is this post in the Tuner Studio forum?
