For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

questions on ms2 5.0 mustang auto tune feature vs a tune

Post by Onebad90lx »

Ok guys 85 mustang 5.0 nothing crazy, mild cam old school 69 ported 351 heads, with a vortech a trim, 30 pound inhectors etc, sees maybe 5 pounds of boost, the car has a safe tune in it that this guy wes did for me, the car runs fine point a to point b, but I assume the tune is very safe tune car just seems flat 3000 and above. so for 500 I could have a guy come out and I drive it he tunes it, or how about this auto tune feature I am not at all sure how it works but I have talked to others that love it and swear buy it, could I get some info please, save money and get me closer??? or spend the money
its not a race or track car a driver but I want it to run decent lol should see 300-350 at the wheels I would hope

Before spending any money or doing any tuning, you should take a datalog of your car in 3rd or 4th at WOT to see how much timing is in it, Air Fuel Ratio, etc. and we could determine if there is more left in it or if it's pretty close to a theoretical "max". VE Analyze Live is a powerful tool in the right hands but if you're already close to max power, no point in messing with it. Also no point in spending 500 when you don't know your baseline. Take the Datalog and know exactly what you've got.

To save the tune out, select File>Save Tune As> *this is where you name it and select the location (like desktop for example)*

For a datalog, you'll go to the data logging menu at the top of Tuner Studio, select Start Logging, a window will pop up where you name the file and set the location (desktop again for easy access), and click Save. This has started the Datalog which will record everything ECU is reading/doing. Do your WOT pulls starting from Low RPM to Max RPM in 3rd or 4th gear, then select Data Logging>Stop at the top menu bar to stop the datalog. Now the datalog file has been created and saved to your desktop where it can be reviewed with Megalogviewer.

It's probably best to get the engine warm and have the car ready for a WOT pull before you start logging. That way the log isn't filled with a bunch of unused data.

You can upload these files to the forum with the "Upload attachment" tab. Try to have both files ready at the same time for us so we can review the log and help make adjustments to the tune at the same time, if necessary.

Not really a file size limit in TS but there is a posting limit in this site.

Don't start the datalog til you're ready to make the hit. you don't have to be datalogging on your way to the test area.
