Connection Issues

For discussion of Phil Tobin's Tuner Studio software (Only about the tuning software itself, not about how to tune or firmware features)

Connection Issues

Post by Raymond_B »

I'm not sure if this is a TS issue or hardware issue, but I thought I'd start here with the debug file.

I've been wiring up my project and got to the point where I could power up my MS3/3X V3.57 Megasquirt. Initially I tried to connect over the Bluetooth dongle purchased from you guys, but TS would just randomly lose connection and after that would not detect the dongle unless I removed it from Windows and then re-paired it. Finally I went inside and found a USB cable and connected that way. This seemed to be better so I wanted to flash the MS with the latest general release firmware. After I flashed the MS through TS I began receiving a lot of CRC and burn page errors on the initial connection. I thought maybe the tune file had bad settings or was corrupted somehow so I flashed the controller again and did not preserve any settings. This seemed to improve connections over USB, but Bluetooth was still unreliable even with the laptop within 2' of the MS in the cab of my truck. Finally I called it a night.

Today I went out and flashed the MS via the included MSDOS utility and did not preserve settings. Still no joy on Bluetooth, but USB seemed to be fine with the exception of when I performed some injector tests and received a burn error, but so far no other issues. I thought I had captured the error in a screenshot, but I did not :(

Here are the specs:

Lenovo X1 Yoga running Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit 1607 14393.1593

Java 8 Update 144

Tuner Studio MS 3.0.22

Assembled Megasquirt from DIY MS3/3X V 3.57 with 1.5.0 release

Attached is the TS debug log. I do not really have an MSQ to attach, but if it would help I can build one.

Thanks!

Are you using Bluetooth Direct to talk to the BlueTooth?
Are you pairing Bluetooth in Windows or Through TunerStudio?

When you are talking to it over USB, is that using the MS3 on board USB or a USB to RS232 cable plugged in to the DB-9?

Yes I am using BT direct.

I have not tried pairing via TS, I will try that.

The USB connection was to the MS3 on-board no adapters.

Thank you!

Removed the BT device from Windows and paired it via TS. The connection was made, but right after I applied my settings to the controller I lost connection. I connected via USB and verified that the download had occurred.

I would advise testing the DB9 with a cable.
There may be an issue with your serial port.
