GPS/Bluetooth problems

Post by rincewind23 »

Hi,
I had my QStarz 818XT working (ages ago) but I haven't used it for quite a while - there's been at least one update to TunerStudio since I last used it..

Anyway, I'm on Windows 10, TunerStudio 3.0.28, with the aforementioned QStarz 818XT GPS unit, configured with connection type of 'Bluetooth Direct'. Settings page shows it as paired, but I'm not getting any GPS data through. I found a previous post having problems with GPS, and that suggested looking at TunerStudioAppDebug.txt, so I cleared out the old file and started TS. Here's what I see in the debug file:

30/11/17 15:38:04 :Info: Initializing GPS.
BlueCove version 2.1.1-SNAPSHOT on winsock
30/11/17 15:38:04 :Info: Found Paired BT Device Qstarz 818XT (001C8801D9A8)
30/11/17 15:38:05 :Debug: Pairing results: false
30/11/17 15:38:05 :Info: Initializing GPS Interface: Bluetooth Direct
30/11/17 15:38:05 :Debug: GPS started
30/11/17 15:38:05 :Info: Ready
MSmain: No check, last update check=Thu Nov 30 14:56:53 GMT 2017
30/11/17 15:38:07 :Debug: Pairing results: false
30/11/17 15:38:07 :Info: Failed to connect to GPS: Failed to pair with Qstarz 818XT (001C8801D9A8)
MSad: No check, last update check=Thu Nov 30 14:56:57 GMT 2017
30/11/17 15:38:10 :Debug: Pairing results: false
30/11/17 15:38:10 :Info: Failed to connect to GPS: Failed to pair with Qstarz 818XT (001C8801D9A8)
(Last two lines repeated over and over about every 10 seconds)

Does anyone know what's wrong? Is there any more troubleshooting I can do?

Cheers,
Kev.

P.S. Didn't attach MSQ or datalog since it didn't seem relevant. If looking at the MSQ will show Bluetooth settings and maybe help, happy to add it.

It looks like it is faliing to pair with it.
Did you pair with it through TunerStudio?
Have the right PIN?
The default PIN is 0000 for the QStarz

I paired it through TunerStudio originally, but it wasn't picking it up for some reason so I unpaired and re-paired through Windows. I would have removed and re-added it in TS but there doesn't seem to be an option to do that.

Thanks LT401Vette, your question about pairing through TunerStudio made me think so I went back and removed it through Windows, then re-paired it through TunerStudio - it seems to be working now.. but I'm just sat in Starbucks so I'll test it on the drive home :) (it is at least reporting a flickering altitude number on the offline dash)
