Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
Hello,
i use Controllers from that Company.
Good Quality and a well proven Bosch Part is in use for the Lambda Readout.
The only drawback is that no Housing is available, and you have to search a Universal Housing.
Hopefully in the near future a Housing will be deliverable.
All in all its a very good Lambda Controller.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
Hi,
i have built a controller on my own based on the same IC (CJ125) and an AVR. It is working quite reliable on my "daily driver" (more weekly at the moment, the bicycle took its role for most in-town usage) since nearly two years now but i can't tell anything about the acuracy.
Best Regards, Mario

@Alfagta @ Franksidebike
Still using the LSU4.2 or changed to LSU4.9 ?
@mariob
Seems to me like a lot of (code) work.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
Does anyone have any comparison between this controller and any of the others available?
I've heard good and bad of a few, and would love to hear some user experiences beyond the fanatical 'can do no wrong' statements occasionally heard about one brand or another.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
Hi,
the controller IC can be used for both LSU 4.2 and 4.9 but you have to change some resistors and calibration values for doing so. The implementation was not that hard as the datasheet for the sensors is quite informative and the CJ125 does the bigger part of the work. One just needs to take the both analogue values (temperature and mixture), calculate lambda (ok, this was a 6th order polynom but no black magic), send lambda to a pwm output (with a scaling the MS understands) and feed a small pid controller for the heater. This is also the right place to take care of not destroying the sensor by heating it up too quickly. (i always assume -40°C here, this wastes some seconds of usefull sensor data on hot starts but is always safe)
The reason to go this way was simply that this controller is used in millions of cars and is built by the same manufacturer as the sensor. (and these cars drive around for 20 years without any trouble with these controllers)
Best Regards, Mario

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
I have both, LSU4.2 and LSU4.9. My LSU4.2 all from my broken Inovate LC1, my LSU4.9 new.
Before I use the best controler off the WorldI have 4-5 LC1 broken (Error !
The Knödler controler is so easy, install and never touch.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
I guess I need to look into what the best controller is, that can be shipped to the USA.
I'm not sure what the issue is, but I contacted Breitband about costs for purchase and shipping and was informed that due to legal and liability reasons, they do not sell to the USA.
I may have to see about doing as a couple of others here have done and roll my own using the Bosch driver IC, since I really like the idea of serial communication, as well as wanting to use the LSU 4.9 to avoid the apparently failure prone 4.2 sensors.
This is a bit beyond my comfort zone as a fabricator, so a growth opportunity!

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
There is no issue with the LSU 4.2. This is mostly a controller issue. You should look at what 14point7.com offers. They also have an open source version.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
But stay away from the older JAW-controllers from there - they have a real jumpy output signal and where my reason for doing an own design based on the CJ125. The newer designs seem to be much better.

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
Sorry for so thoroughly hijacking this thread!
Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry as well, I'll see where the information leads me.
I'm just cautious about actually using the LC-1 that I'd purchased after hearing so many reports of dead controllers or sensors. I can't justify repeated sensor purchases when they're supposed to last a good while, and aren't a <$20 consumable maintenance item!
Heck, here in the USA they're covered in the mandatory warranty on emissions equipment, and the manufacturers are notorious about not wanting to go cheap on something that will bite them in the pocket book!

Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
I did order the spartan lambda controller by 14point7.
Its build in the connector wich is used to connect to the sensorconnector.
Only 5 wires, i just need only 4 of them.
Did some small test seems to work.
Have to install it into the vehicle wich has some other problems at the moment.

I stumbled upon the ALM-1, which is a very small form factor board using the Bosch CJ125. It's made in the US and costs $199 in single-piece quantities. I think I posted a link in another thread.
Re: Wideband Controller (Breitband)
I ended up going with a pair of 14point7 OEM boards, on a carrier board that another gentleman here had designed, and interfacing with the MS via CANBUS by using a TinyIOx board.
I'm not sure just how well it will work though, as the car it was intended to go into was hit and the whole MS project is once again on the back burner!
