I have a Ford 434 cubic inch EFI motor in my '53 Ford F100. It uses an EEC-IV controller. I have used this for several years, and it's well tuned. Recently I converted the ignition to EDIS. I installed D585 coils. The motor starts & runs good, but the timing doesn't advance properly. The coils fire too soon at low RPM, due to the long dwell time from the EDIS8 module. I have not been able to reduce the dwell from that unit.
I need an ignition controller that will interface with the EEC-IV, and drive 4 D585 coils. I am considering building my own, but will purchase an off-the-shelf unit, if there is something available that will work.
Please offer any suggestions.
Thank You,
Dan Lee

Re: EDIS8 & D585 Coils
That's a very strange combination.
Use EDIS8 with EDIS coils.
OR
Use D585 coils with a Megasquirt ECU (e.g. MS3 or MS3-Pro.)

Re: EDIS8 & D585 Coils
The problem is that the EDIS8 uses 40 crank degrees for dwell. At idle that's about 10 milliseconds. The D585 Coils fire at 6 milliseconds. I have to reduce the dwell from the EDIS8. I'm considering purchasing a Megasquirt Stimulate board to generate the crank signal & using a microcontroller to generate the PIP. I can keep the dwell to about 5 milliseconds or less.
I will need some way to simulate the SAW.
Will the Megasquirt Stimulate board simulate the SAW?

I don't understand how you can use 4 LS coils to run a V8, so I assume you mean 8 of them.Dan Lee wrote:I have a Ford 434 cubic inch EFI motor in my '53 Ford F100. It uses an EEC-IV controller. Regardless, why would you use coils with built-in ignitors and EDIS? There's all sorts of incompatible happening here.
I have read that you can use 8 newer Ford COP coils wired in pairs, and keep the EDIS module happy. IF what I read is true, that would be your best solution.
