These have been available for awhile from Bosch and NGK, they are common on vehicles with urea SCR systems or lean NOx catalysts. They all have built-in controllers that output on CAN. They output O2 % and Lambda, as well as NOx PPM. So they're really useful for calibration.
Some of them speak J1939, so decoding the CAN data is fairly easy (since J1939 information is available on the internet). Some of them have a fixed CAN ID (so you can only have one per CAN bus), others can switch between two IDs if you jumper a pin in the connector (it's meant for a vehicle with an 'upstream' and 'downstream' sensor).

The two I have say A034X846 on them. They are Cummins replacement parts.
It has a 4-pin connector which is the same as a Bosch T-MAP. Unfortunately I can't find the pinout for this one, but I'm playing with it on my bench.
I did find the pinout for the 5-pin version here:

That's the manual for an NI NOx sensor kit which contains a smart NOx sensor and CAN module, along with some software.

I've seen conflicting information on the O2 output. Some sources say it outputs O2 % (which would be negative when rich, and used to calculate lambda), some say it outputs phi (equivalence ratio, the inverse of lambda). I am not sure which is correct.
You have to send a message to it which tells it if it's safe to turn the heater on. The second PDF says it needs PGN 65247 (Electronic Engine Controller 3), which includes some bits for 'Aftertreatment Dew Point'. I am not sure which bits they are yet.
The response should be one of the J1939 CAN ID's for Aftertreatment 1 Intake or Exhaust (intake is relative to the catalyst, so it would be engine outlet pre-cat and exhaust would be post-cat).
