Bench testing an MS3 CPU
How can I power up the MS3 CPU without plugging it into a mainboard?
I want to do some custom gauge development with CAN but don't have a spare mainboard available for testing.
I do have a bench supply and a crank/cam simulator.
Already tried the following on the 40 Pin connector:
5V on pins 1, 20 & 31
GND on 2, 19, 32
But Tunerstudio won't talk to the MS3.
What am I doing wrong?

That should work - does it have firmware loaded?

Re: Bench testing an MS3 CPU
It's a brand new module, So no firmware loaded AFAIK.
I tried enabling the bootloader jumper, but to the same effect (no response from MS3 via TS).
Neither using the built in USB, nor attaching to the UART pins directly achieves a response.
I've even tried powering it from the USB bus on my laptop - but still no go
Maybe I have a bad MS3?

Re: Bench testing an MS3 CPU
You are not supposed to be able to communicate with it if it hasn't got any firmware loaded - download the latest stable firmware and load a firmware in the processor.

Right, but I get no response even after setting the bootloader jumper and trying to connect via tunerstudio.

Re: Bench testing an MS3 CPU
Guys... it's not possible to load the firmware if the MS3 CPU can't be detected by either TunerStudio or the CLI firmware tool.
Power is being supplied on a breadboard via the pins listed in my first post, the only other connection is USB to my PC.
I have tried both with and without the bootloader jumper set - In both cases my PC sees the FTDI chip, but the firmware loader will not detect an MS3.
My unit must be DOA, I'll look into getting a replacement.
