Singel cylinder MAP sensor.

Post by Stian1979 »

Was wondering how a map sensor would work on single cylinder motorbikes.
Was thinking that on low rpm at least it should be quite unstable so would it not make sense to read the inlet pressure only when the valve is open?
For a two stroke it would read only from bottom dead center and until top dead center and just keep the reading from this in the ECU until it's updated on the next rotation and only read from top dead center to bottom dead center during inlet on a 4 stroke.

I guess on high rpm it wold not be needed or a long hose to the sensor would work as kind of filter.
Has anyone experience on this or been thinking about this?

The new MAP sampling code should work for that just fine as long as settings are correct. It samples at a specific crank angle.

I can confirm that the latest codes with the crank angle map sampling strategy works very well on a single cylinder, I've had it running on a yamaha YFZ450 for a long time now. You'll absolutely need a multi-tooth crank wheel setup and cam synch or a single missing tooth wheel on the cam for your tach signal to make it work.

FYI - MS2Extra can do all this right now.

Ken and James,
Would it be possible to add VSS to the fan control parameters? Since most cooling fans stop being effective at about 45 mph it would be kind of nice to be able to have them turn off at a user inputted vehicle speed. Less load on the engine and thus a possible way to improve fuel economy. As the subject says, just an idea...

It is already there.
