Indeed!

As might be expected, most of the discussion on these forums centers around the features of the software. But one thing I'm continually impressed by is it's *quality*. With most software, an "alpha" typically is something that is about 50% functional. I've been driving my car daily on various MS3 alpha codes for months now and have never had an issue! Very impressive.

Bringing this back from the dead, sort of...

James, what's the current status of the "tri-tach" code?

My car's currently not runnable but hopefully will be within a month. And I'd be happy to continue testing that code but there's one problem.

Right now I can switch between using Jean's divider and tri-tach without making any wiring changes save one: the main tach input needs to be connected to the divider output for toothed wheel mode, but to the crank pin sensor for tri-tach mode. But the location where the ECU will be mounted in the new car is not very accessible, so making a wiring change to switch between modes would be very difficult.

Would it be possible to make the crank pin input software-selectable? At one point you had emailed me a list of usable interrupt pins - if I could hook that signal to either JS10 or PT6 I'd be all set. Or PT4 but I seem to remember your RTC board uses that signal? I'm already using the MS3X cam input.

How about a single pole two position switch? Just wire it in before mounting the box.

I'm going to post just to let James know that there is more interest on this. I'm currently running my COP 5cyl Audi on my heavily modded second group buy MS1 triggering off of 5 flywheel dowel pins plus a VR on a single cam dowel pin. I'm sick of the litte issues with the MS1 (primarily noise related) and sick of having no room to expand anymore. MS3X is in this car's very near future. I would love to go back to the 135+1+1 trigger setup and would be plenty willing to be a test subject. I've been sorta waiting for this to develop a little before spending the money on the new MS, but it looks like I may need to give it a little push to help out ;-).

I just picked up a new dual vr v2.1 from Jean, going to be hooking this up with the translator board to see how it works, but I am also going to hook this up to my ms3 and try the trip tach out.

Brent,
the only configuration I could get to sync and have an RPM was the one given in this thread. High count teeth to PT4, single pin to tachin and cam hall to MS3x cam in. Please let us know how it goes for you and good luck.

My audi is running already on a 60-2 hall sensor setup with the stock AAN cam sensor. When I hooked up my knock sensors, I ran the stock crank sensor wires to my ecu. I can hook the dual vr board up for scope testing, once I can get a good pattern we will see.

Just got my vr boards from Jean, got them in bulk..... 4 of them. Just about got the translator board setup for testing tomorrow. If that works well then I will try tri tach on the ms3. I can run my car on the 60-2 and scope the factory vr sensors.

Has anybody done any more testing? I'm ready to order my MS3 setup and also need to do a clutch. If this is developed enough and/or there's a will to finish it I will change my flywheel to a stock unit at that time. My current flywheel is modded with 4 extra dowel pins for use as a 5+1 sensor with a custom VR cam input. I'm willing to play guinea pig as long as James has enough time and will to continue development since reverting to my previous setup (changing the flywheel) is a big deal.

From re-reading the previous pages it sounds like the code should be in driveable state, correct?

I haven't had time to mess with it yet. You can pull your extra pins out thru the starter hole pretty easy or reinstall them too if needed. I think Eric did get it driveable with this code but switched back to the divider board.

That is a possibility, I hadn't thought of that! I am using a Glen Hoag dual VR board with my current MS1 setup. I suppose I'd retain that for the extra VR circuit needed. I actually have 2 of Jeans divider boards that I was never able to make work, I could revisit that since they seem to be working well for Eric.

Well for what it's worth, I was beginning to think I lived in a bizarre alternate universe where I was the only one able to make Jean's board work!

But there's now at least one other user with confirmed success. He's "quattrodaveuk" here and I've been working with him through PMs but I'm hoping I can convince him to start a thread to let us know what works and what doesn't for him.
