Re: VVT ideas and testers
You can't choose "nitrous 1" for PWM idle, but the principle applies yes.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
ok how about "idle on idle" and "vvt on nitrous 1" (it appears to be available for that)...

Re: VVT ideas and testers
Yes, that would work.
I could likely make Idle more flexible with the outputs following some of the other internal changes I recently made.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
are the groups arbitrary or hardware restrictions?
maybe just an IO config area where you select your groups and output frequencies and then just have TS display that selection in the individual configuration screens but grey it out and make the hover text say "change output frequency in IO settings screen".
blah blah blah.
I really really dont want to redo my harness

If you want the gory details, read the datasheet of the CPU from Freescale. The pin groupings are built into the processor.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
I got my diode installed this morning. I will hopefully be getting rough settings from y8s today and will give VVT a try tonight and tomorrow on my miata.
I got all the info I needed form y8s and created a new msq for tonight. I will be running alpha 6 and will be trying VVT tonight on my way home from work.

Actually I was more interested in all the other VVT settings than the table itself.y8s wrote:I posted a wanted ad on miata.net and someone in my city has a spare to give me so you're off the hook Dimitris.
tried to upload my .table file but:so here it is:msextra forum wrote:The upload was rejected because the uploaded file was identified as a possible attack vector.
and the table file if you want.

oh well here's the settings I'm using in alpha 6 I think.
Re: VVT ideas and testers
So, for the S54 with with the double solenoids per cam, how would this be setup on ms3x? someone mentioned setting up an H bridge, how could this be switched? I'm wondering how this need to be implemented into the software. It uses one solenoid for advancing and one for retarding.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
re flyback noise and using 1N4004 etc across solenoid vs standard MS3X flyback, has anyone scoped OEM setup to see how they are operating the solenoids? I can probably get to scoping a car next week (BMW) but have no access to Miata.
Sorry if this has already been done; I wasn't able to find that information.
Great code and testing guys; I'm excited to try it.

Miata VVT solenoid on the stock ECU:
Very little flyback, as you can see.

To me, the parallel diode you installed is the correct setup.Reverant wrote:Miata VVT solenoid on the stock ECU:

So how does the stock ECU handle it?Reverant wrote:Miata VVT solenoid on the stock ECU:

Probably internal diodes that shunt spike to +12V (same that valve is connected to)y8s wrote:So how does the stock ECU handle it?Reverant wrote:Miata VVT solenoid on the stock ECU:

Re: VVT ideas and testers
You'll need to dig out some info on that - wiring and fluid diagrams if possible.dthomp87 wrote:So, for the S54 with with the double solenoids per cam, how would this be setup on ms3x? someone mentioned setting up an H bridge, how could this be switched? Could this be anything like a 3 wire idle valve setup or totally different?
There's no support for that in the code right now, but with the right information we can look at it for sure.
I sent test code to Reverent and y8s. Sounds like Reverent had some tuning software problem corrupting the MSQ as it loaded.

y8s did you test the .s19 that James sent you?

Re: VVT ideas and testers
I did a little but I'm not certain I have my VVT settings dialed in the right way for the new firmware and haven't had a chance to mess with it since learning the "new way".
Previously, angles entered and reported were absolute angles and the table was relative angles.
Now I think I need to enter relative angles -- because that's what the target angle shows?
Hell, I'll just upload the map and log:

Re: VVT ideas and testers
As I said by email - you need to reconfirm your vvt min/max angles as I found a calculation error and changed the code - therefore the angle reported might be different and outside of the range. As per the previous change, if the angle is out of range it doesn't alter the displayed angle (in an attempt to fix the spikes gurov was seeing.)
Just to repeat.
The min/max angles are ABSOLUTE. Determine these by setting them to zero and using the test mode to advance/retard the cams.
Once those are set, the table and reported angles are "real world" relative angles. (Except I spotted another missed line of code - doh !)
I see how that happened too. I fixed the code, then worked on another issue. During that time I lost my first change.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
Here's the latest firmware test james gave me that corrects the reported angles.
Response is way crazy compared to initial VVT implementations but, again, that may be PID tuning--which I haven't had a chance to do.
But the reported angles make sense now.

Re: VVT ideas and testers
You VVT solenoid is almost certainly behaving differently now that you've change the flyback arrangement.
