One other peculiarity, both in 17 and 18, is that the duty seems to be backwards for exhaust. For my intake cam duty of 0% means the solenoid is getting no power. On the exhaust cam a reported duty of 100% means the solenoid is getting no power (verified on my oscilloscope) 0% gives me full retard on the exhaust cam.
That's in the nature of the way the code is written. Ken is best to explain.

Have you followed the instructions?
Seems quite unlikely that the cam tooth edge is precisely at 0 BTDC and only has a range to 10 BTDC. I'm guessing that you are triggering a "VVT1 err" indicator due to your settings. Set min and max to zero and see what angle is reported.

I'm sure it was done to economize on code, to re-use the same PID algorythm, but the result is that the exhaust is very confusing to configure compared to the intake. In test mode, you need to know that it's backwards or you're lost. It's not 0% you need to start with, but 100%

The exhaust table is at least consistent in that cam minimum position + table = target, but it's slightly confusing needing to write the table in terms of advance when you're trying to retard.

hi there, this is my situation with VVT Tests on a K20 honda Engine.
I am using the factory OEM sensors and Trigger wheels for my crank, Exhaust cam and Intake Cam.
My VVT valve is placed in the intake cam (as usual), I am using the cam 1 signal (exhaust Cam) as the main MS3x cam input, and I am using a cam 2 signal ( as reference) placed on Intake cam and using the PT4 input for it. I was having some troubles with Cam 2-pt4 signal but James help me updating the code and now it works perfect. Now I have all inputs working perfect and the test mode works perfect, so I have configured the Min-max angles ( in this case cam 2 is the only one that changes). BUT I still concern about one detail, My relative timing Table are not changing my vvt angles. Does anyone can explain me how can I configure-use this tables? or if I need another code update to make them work with my honda trigger?

Do you see the VVT2 duty changing at all?
PID values of 0,0,0 aren't going to work.

So VVT2 duty doesn't change. Most likely due to your PID settings preventing it.

I know that this is a kind of stupid question, but I have to do it because there is a lot of people in this forum that is trying to explain what PID is and HOW to configure it, and they really confuse my mind, and the manual does not explain the PID for VVT. so WHAT is PID and HOW to tune it for VVT?? :?: :?:
is it the same as EGO??? because I don't see any changes on my respond and signal.

Yes, we originally had the Minimum and Maximum set to 0 per the instructions
"Double check that the cam min/max angles are presently set to zero. For each cam record the minimum and maximum angles you observe as the test duty is varied. Enter these into the min/max fields."
but this is where we got stuck because as we varied the test duty, we could not observe any cam angles on the VVT1 angle gauge.

OK, so either the cam isn't moving, or the cam tooth you are using doesn't move with the cam.

"hoveringuy" is using a polled cam tooth and as far as I'm aware that is working ok.

The cam definitely moves in test mode and the cam tooth is part of the cam (half moon ground on the end).
Any other ideas?
What about trying Alpha 17?

Try setting the cam edge to "Rising" or "Falling" instead of "Poll level" and see if that makes any difference. You can try alpha17 if you wish although I doubt if it will change anything.

We did that per Matt's recommendation and it didn't change anything.

Enclosed. The composite log includes starting, idling, swinging the intake cam in test mode, then back to idle (about 5 seconds each).
