That seems a little excessive. y8s has proved good results with just a single jumper wire.

nah I added a connector so the expander and mainboard were no longer tethered like a wacky electronic nunchaku.

I need some advice.

I'm going to retrofit MIVEC to a Mitsubishi 4g63, but using megasquirt to control the cam(s) I just need to know, does the feed back system need high resolution wheels?

Running missing tooth on crank and single tooth on cam the Int Cam uses the main sensor single tooth suffice what is it reporting every revolution?

I ran my diode cathodes to the +12 input and captured the new signal. Improvement is remarkable.

This mod is probably necessary for almost anyone that wants to run VVT.

Bug or ?.

I have the intake cam VANOS running relatively well when it's synched to cam, but nothing works when I change to control interval. Duty cycle is stuck at 0.

Ideas?

I don't understand your question. What is Intcam ?

What wheels are you planning on running?
Something like 36-1 on the crank and single tooth on the cam would be fine - so long as the cam tooth is far away from the missing tooth region so it never crosses it.

Int. cam = Intake cam.

I'm asking about the feed back system for the camphasing it has to know position. Doesn't it need a high resolution sensor?
I am retrofitting it I just need some advice on what wheels to use for it.


On the crank I use a GM 60-3 crank trigger wheel.

I mofified the flyback on the MS3X board last week by jumpering to +12v and had a significant improvement in my signal, much more efficient. There was still some troubling spikes, however.

I changed the 6 diodes to Shottky diodes and was able to eliminate those spikes. I haven't noticed a difference, but noise spikes have a pesky way of propagating and messing up other functions. I used Digikey part #MBRS360BT3G

can you please post a picture with spots marked where these need to be replaced. i've got a bunch of those diodes on order.

They're only $0.65 each and it took me a few minutes to replace them. Remember to remove any residual flux if you use fresh solder... it's acid!

great.

is that tan wire going straight to +12v ?

You might be missing a trick here.

Does the behaviour of the VVT solenoid actually change?
If yes, then good work.
If no, then why change the diodes !

No difference in how the VANOS works with Schottky. Changing the diodes might be overkill, but it also might clear-up an unrelated issue somewhere else; that noise could be going anywhere...

Also, the 36V clamps in the scope shot is by design. I'm sure you realised that, but for other readers it is the same kind of clamp used in the injector flyback circuit.

Yes, the active flyback was designed correctly, it's used on mainboard batch injection but not on sequential fuel. I honestly don't know why it behaves that way on MS3X medium current outputs. Is it the IPS022G MOSFET? The frequency? the PWM?
