Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
I fixed the Fan, well kinda. I drove the car for a bit and did some tuning. I parked the car and and shut off the engine, The car was 202*F and was above Fan turn on. The fan stayed running as it should and then began shutting off and back on even thow it hadn't reach 180*F, shut temp. I found that when the O2 read lean the fan was off, when it read noraml it came back on. For the fan to saty steady I had to start the car so the O2 wasn't swinging lean. Any one have any thoughts?

I'll try an get one, also let me rephrase what i said earlier. The fan went off when my O2 read "out of Ranger." Might have been coincedince also.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
Took a log after the engine got to temp. At the beggining, The car was parked and then fan was not on, it said it was in TS though. I then drove it a little and parked it again. I then shut off the car and let the log role. I still had fan this time even after shutting it off and it was consistant. Earlier when the fan was coming in and out and seemed to be matching the O2 reading, it might have been another issue and not what it seemed. Maybe my Relay is failing. I also notice my car is reading extremely lean after sitting a bit, takes almost a minute or so to start reading properly. Wonder what would cause this? I don't think this is from the alpha20 nut maybe my Placement of the O2 instead.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
Not sure I understand your fan issue, but looking at your log, here is a few suggestions:
- You're running too lean in boost, 13.5AFR @ 150kPa is a good idea to explode a piston or two.
- Your AFR target table is probably too lean in boost also. 14AFR at 120kPa is on the lean side and so is 12.7 AFR at 220kPa
- Your ignition table looks wrong at low RPM / low MAP (too far advance)...
- Your hot restart issue is probably due to IAT heat soak, you might want to move the IAT somewhere where it won't heat soak as much.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
That's what is strange, the car exhaust smells like it is a tad on the rich side, though the O2 reads way lean.I'll revisit the AFR table, and check the Adv table. I built the ADV table off a 99 3800 Regal PCM dump.
Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
If you're lean enough to cause misfires, you will have both lots of oxygen for the sensor to detect and fuel vapour for your nose to detect. Ironically, the exact same thing will happen if you are staggering rich - just the fuel smell will be stronger.
Temporarily shut down - back soon!

Thanks for the reply, i am still learning. Just never have time to worok on the car. I don't have any mis-fires, and the car runs quite nice. i hope to have time tonight to make some suggested changes and see how it does.

You have to be careful when taking the main spark advance map from a stock ECM. They sometime apply all kind of other table (and/or calculation) to it that can give different advance then what is in that table.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
I figured, I actually cut it by 5-15 degrees in most areas on that table you saw. I left idle high though cause it ihad a real smooth idle that way. I made some changes based on what you said. Didn't drive the car just ran the engine while parked in the drive way. My O2 took a while to began reading. I long while. Even a few minutes after WUE was off. Took a quick log after the O2 began reading. I attached it with msq if interested. I might not have time to drive it till this weekend. The Fan is working fine now it seems also. Not sure what was happening the other day.93white3400z wrote:You have to be careful when taking the main spark advance map from a stock ECM. Jumping from beta 18 to beta 20. How will I need to scale my AE so that I don't have to retune it?
Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
for one, make sure you zero out anything that is a negative tpsdot
scaling i believe goes like this:
alpha 18: I used values around 1.5-10%
alpha 20: values 15-100%
so just multiply by 10

Thanks y8s
Is everyone having luck with it saving your sensor calibration settings. I have always reburned my CLT, air temp, wideband, and TP. It appears to be holding the old values. I'm uneasy about trusting it. Just curious what others are experiencing.

yup it seems solid so far. tunerstudio doesn't even ask me to burn current settings because so little has changed.
Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
cold start problem.
Engine: bmw NA I6cyl 24valve 2500cc. with stock injectors 191cc/min, sequential.
Fuel : E85
MS3 with MS3X board
After I changed the code to pre1.1 beta 20, my cold start has been very hard. I have noticed, that if I set cranking pulsewidth% ~over 130%, engine doesn't even try to start. And when this happens, cranking seq PW is under ~6 milliseconds. If I set cranking pulsewidth% ~under 130%, engine starts. Then seq PW is over 30 milliseconds.
Sometimes seq PW spikes right after crank, say 400-600rpm, even thought engine is warm.
Is that code bug or what?

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
How did you arrive at your ReqFuel ? I used the calculator and arrive at 14.6ms compared to your 22.1 ?
But... I agree that something looks odd with Seq PW1 compared to PW. I will be investigating.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
I'm using e85 stoich AFR ~9.8 in calculation of required fuel, then I get as a result 22.1 ms. When I use gasoline, I change reguired fuel to 14.6 ms.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
As a workaround, disable injector trim. That calculation is overflowing with WUE and ASE on full just after cranking.
There will be a fix in the next beta.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
I disabled injector trim and now larger pulsewidths work as expected in cranking, and right after crank.

Re: MS3 pre-1.1 beta 20 released
What version did "use new accel pump AE" come in? I switched to this today just sitting in the driveway running after WUE was off and the throttle was way more responsive. I was going to look at what the difference is but never didn't get to it. I'll drive the car tomorrow and see how it does.
