possibilities of running a factory ford dash

Post by ashford »

im too cheap and lazy to build a gauge cluster for my next project, personally i prefer to look of the stock cluster as well.
i did some looking into it the cluster gets rpm and speed from the databus(all others are conventional) it uses j1850 pwm(ford calls it standard corporate protocol) it looks similar to canbus but at a slower datarate, so i started looking into converters, there are converters out there that tranlate all obdII protocols into rs232 via an mcu but i am uncertain if it translates between protocols.if this is doable this should be able to control any ford data based dash from 96-2008

before i start digging into stuff deeper and experimenting is there anyone out ther that can confirm this can be done? if so can i be steered in the right direction.

p.s. i heard a rumor that kurgen motorsports is working on the same thing to be implimented on an ms3 based system.
