Help with editing code

Post by sentein »

Can someone please help me get everything open to edit the code. I have every program that the "read me" files say i need and i cannot figure out how to read them to edit the code. I would like to know i can edit it before i spend $1000 on hardware and wiring.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "get everything open to edit the code"?

The first thing you need to do is download the source files - if you want the latest, look here: http://www.msextra.com/forums/viewtopic ... 25&t=50284 and there's a link to download a .zip file that contains them.

Then unpack the .zip file to a directory somewhere - you should end up with a folder containing about 65 files. You then need to use a text editor to edit the necessary files (generally the ".c", ".h", ".s", and ".inc" files and maybe the .ini file), then compile the code using the instructions provided. As to what text editor to use that's up to you, but Notepad (I'm assuming you're using a Windows PC) is an awful choice. I use something called UltraEdit but there are many available, some for free. I've read that "notepad++" is a good one.

Why do you need to edit the code anyway?

If you don't know how to open even an editor it doesn't bode well for modifying the C source code...

I think he actually is wondering how to set the MS3 up, due to the "spend $1000 on hardware and wiring".

sentein: go to tunerstudio.com and download TunerStudio for the computer you are using. I think that is what you are looking for.

He has another post were he explains that he want to control a diesel engine. James told him right now is not and option so he wants to give it a shot to mod the code to this end.

I agree if you can not open the necessary programs I dont think that you will be able to mod the code to suits that goal as it is not trivial.
