Re: Pit Lane Limiter
What about a programmable light that is one when below X speed. When in the pit lane, make sure the light is on.

Is there a reason that couldn't be setup in the programmable on/off (generic- port settings)? either by GPS or VSS?whittlebeast wrote:What about a programmable light that is one when below X speed. When in the pit lane, make sure the light is on.

maybe 2 of them, 1 light when you are over and 1 while you are in a range 1-2 mph below the limit so you know your close?
Re: Pit Lane Limiter
I think when you drive 60Kph in the Pit there isn't really much slope..
And when the MS reduce the RPM Limit as Long as we are above the Kph Limt the Slope is unimportant.
Lets say i drive to the pit.
Press the Pit Lane Button. The MS Stop the Ignition as Long as i'am above the Speed Limit. (Maybe Return to Ignition when Clutch is pressed and Rpm is lower then a setpoint??)
When the actual Speed is lower than the Speed Limit Ignition Comes back.
Now we are in Pit Lane Limiter Mode...
And the Preset Rpm Limit is only a Starting Point.
When the MS realize the the Speed is always above the Limit with the Preset RPM then the RPM Limit must be decreased.
As Long as the Speed is in a "Dead Band" the RPM Limit stay constant.
When we higher than the Limit + Deadband decrease the RPM Limit, when we are Lower then the Limit- Deadband increase the RPM Limit.
Now you Stop in the Pit...
After the Stop you drive again. Hit the Pit lane Button and all Starts from new.
At this Case we are lower then the Limit when the Button is pressed. So the RPM Limit Comes from the Preset.
And i think most of the racing cars have Manual Transmission. Without any Torque Convertors.

Because you had to Stay within the Limits by yourself.
That option is actually possible with the ON/OFF Outputs.
It's the Same to look at the Speedometer..
So not an option for me.
Other Aftermarket ECU's also cut Ignition and Fuel for The Speed Limiter
I know one of them has 5 Cut Patterns for 5 Rpm Values.
Best regards

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
I have implemented a feature for the next alpha release. Getting smooth operation is a bit tricky - it depends on how precise you want the limiter to be and how hard you try to drive through it.

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
I highly doubt anyone racing in a class/event that has a pit limit will have an automatic transmission, but then again I may be wrong.jsmcortina wrote:That's likely fine with a manal, but what about a loose auto?

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
very cool! I am curious to test it... Will have a race on Nov, 9th. Do you think I could test there already?

Okay. We will test it when the Code is available.
Then we will see how hard it is to configure the Feature.
Motec has the same behavior. When the Pit Limiter is active and you put the Throttle to the floor. You will get Loud Misfire.
But let's say with 25% Throttle Position it works well.

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
Thanks James, looking forward to this feature !
It doesn't matter too much about which method is used to slow the car (ignition or fuel) but it is important that it be VSS sourced. Too often we see drivers getting pinged for speed where a small error in calculating engine revs after a diff ratio change has occured.
Mandatory pit lane limits are common in Oz although they vary wildly depending on class/series and even track management.
Something no-one has mentioned is requirement for a "pit lane speed limiter on" light.
A flashing red light at the rear, but then that's not hard to implement direct from the button.

That's my experience. But good random spark cut pattern and driver cooperation ends up pretty smooth.Alfagta wrote:jsmcortina wrote:I have implemented a feature for the next alpha release. Re: Pit Lane Limiter
A company named CanDooPro.com makes a really fast and accurate GPS that would be way easier to install compared to adding wheel tone rings. We use them now on the jet skis where tone rings are out of the question.

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
To extend this function to a wider user-group, isn't this just a form of 'valet parking'-function?
And how about 'upto' 25% throttle, do random spark-cuts,
and above 25% throttle, cut or limit fuel to prevent damaging misfires?

I liked the simplicity of the MoTeC implementation.BigBlockMopar wrote:To extend this function to a wider user-group, isn't this just a form of 'valet parking'-function?

The car was much smoother at a moderate throttle angle and our driver figured it out pretty quickly.

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
GPS is a problem with compliance under regs. Neat device, just not legit everywhere.
I can see value in having the extension to fuel cut over 25% throttle, possibly best by a configuration option.
I used to run a MoTec on the 240z and also like the simplicity of the function.

Re: Pit Lane Limiter
Applying full throttle in a pit lane situation is a case of not operating the equipment properly; the pit lane limiter is an assist, not a copilot.
Repeat offenders can be counselled with a programmable output that activates when the pit lane limiter is on and the TPS is over 40% and applies gentle CDI shocks to the driver's genitalia.
