Feature request full sequential without cam sensor on 5cyl

Post by tynt »

Why not to lose cam sensor if it's not needed? It would be cheaper to install and less things can go wrong. Cam phase should be extremely easy to detect during cranking. Check out this tooth log. You can clearly distinguish when missing tooth is near compression stroke or near exhaust stroke.

It might look kind-of ok in that log, but would it be reliable under all conditions? I doubt it.

The human brain is incredibly good at seeing patterns so it seems obvious when looking at it. But trying to implement this pattern recognition in a reliable and efficient manner is a completely different ball game. Just try to formalize this in a way that would be obvious for a blind person and you may get an idea of the complexity.
