Hi there,
I recently create a DBC for MS broadcast CAN frames using Vector CANdb++ Editor (part of Vector CANalyzer) and I get some points I'd like to discuss while code is still alpha. The aim of it is to send it to AIM to get it implemented in there Dashboard/loggers.
- iacstep get two factor in regard of which valve you use. It's lead in 2 DBC because a signal can only get one factor. It will be better to output iacstep (factor 1) AND iacpwm (factor 0.392 - included in my DBC but not in James docs) and get a single DBC for MS. Then user will deal with the parameter he need.
- I had a discussion with Sylvain, a friend who use to define DBC and also had already work with AIM. He define the e-Race CAN protocol. What we are both agree is that the MS CAN output isn't designed with a dashboard in mind, but a logger. Correct ? In fact it will be better to get, let's say, the first 3 or 4 frames build with dashboard thoughts as DTA, e-Race and other brand do. Then the others frames can be what you want with a logging/debugging purpose. So I like to know what YOU will display on a dashboard and make this informations available on the very first frames of the CAN broadcasting process. On my own, I think that there will be : RPM, CLT, T°, IAT T°, Engaged gear, AFR, etc...
In a second time we believe that the way TunerStudio handle the broadcasting process should be change to something more easy. i.e. : a user want to activate the AIM data frame, he should only choice "AIM" and go on, no activate frame x to y... Same thoughts can be applied to "Race Technology" or other. And finally in this drop-down list you can choose to enable "Expert Mode" witch will allow you to select each frame one by one.
Here is the DBC. In it all bits fields are described separately.
