BMW S54 "Cam Fault" - Solved

Post by Mario »

Hey guys, having some real trouble with a S54 BMW engine. Can someone look at these files for any ideas on why the Cam Fault is tripped when I enable VVT.

MS3-Pro - MS3 pre-1.4 beta 10

I have just a few experience on vanos systems but my guess is something with settings. I saw your engine logger and both cam signal seams to be OK. Since you got full sync without vvt. The problem may be on intake cam. Since you are using exhaust cam as main cam. Have you tried to flip the cam polarity on vvt menu?

This is my guess but there are people with more experience then me.

What did you do to fix it?

Please could you describe your setup and post an MSQ and I'll try to get some details added to the manuals.

James

I followed the advice to set the check tooth to "0" going Low. Set that and everything went well today. We started and stopped the the car probably 20 times without issue. Now I just have to get the PID adjusted better. Intake is pretty slow compared to the Exhaust. It flutters more.

And here is a scope screen shot for reference

We are using MS3-Pro, Beta 10
