Feature Request: VW OBD2 idle support

Post by papiogxl »

What I am requesting is to allow the use of the IACV outputs so I can drive a bidirectional DC Motor for my PWM idle valve. I would also like to request the addition of a switch setting that activates idle mode. ie: IDLE active when tableswitch

What I'm working with:

VW OBD2 VR6 throttle body
Uses integrated DC motor to operate a "throttle stop" to open the throttle and allow idle control.
Also has internal idle switch that is closed when there is no throttle input.

Running it with regular PWM gives very frustrating results on a motor. I abandoned that before, and am attempting to solve the problem now. I currently am bench testing the system (using similar to the OEM ~500hz setting) and results are such:

0% 1.4% TPS
10% 1.4% TPS
20% 1.8% TPS
30% 20% TPS and very weak feeling, easily can push back to closed
40% 22%, not much more firm
50% 24%TPS a little harder to close
80% 25%TPS and very difficult to close

As you can see, it is nearly impossible for closed loop to deal with these conditions. It is essentially open or shut. By driving the motor in both directions it should be able to strongly float the throttle blade where I need it to give proper control. My only concern then would be whether the MS's IACV output could deal with the amperage of this motor (4 ohm)

The reason for my second request is that when the idle valve is active, it is changing TPS values. This could cause issues and has in the past pushed me out of closed loop operation.

Thanks

Our 3-wire PWM doesn't work? Our idle VE table doesn't either? Soinds like we would just need to use the switch instead of TPS to engage idle.
Megasquirt is not for use on pollution controlled vehicles. Any advice I give is for off road use only.

Those valves need a true servo controller.

Thanks. I guess that kinda negates that idea. I'll just run it how I have been then.
