Feature request - choice for break switch input

Post by cdot31 »

So I have a 86 Chevy c10 that uses a normally closed break switch for the torque converter lockup and I would like to keep using that switch as the break switch input for the to my ms3 but it seems there is only the option to have a normally open switch for the break input for the TCL.
Is this something that can be added?

Thanks
Calvin

Also interested in this, as my clutch switch is also normally closed.

You can reverse a switch like that by using a standard 5 pin Bosch relay. Wire it up so when the switch is closed the relay is on, and nothing is connected to the 87 pin. But when you step on the pedal and the switch opens the current drops out and the relay turns off sending the signal through the 87a pin and sending a ground input to megasquirt

That is an good option but a whole load of complication,

I assume it's just in the programming if the input works off closed or open,

But that's beyond me lol

I would like to keep from having to add more wiring and relays if I dont have to.

Use the MS3X nitrous input pin.

Assuming the desired input pin has no external pull-up resistor, this can be done with a 1k pull-up resistor upstream of the switch, and a 10k pull-down at the pin. While the pedal is released / switch is closed, the pin in pulled high. When the pedal is depressed and the switch opens, the pin is pulled down, activating the function.

I would also suggest a small Vf diode at the pin, pointing towards the switch, to protect against surges and shorts to 12v.

I am using the nitrous in for my vss.

I have it wired to use the launch for the brake switch.

Looks like if it's not something that is not capable of being implemented then I will just find a normally open switch that will fit in place of the one I have now. Would just be nice to use the one I already have.

Would it not be simpler to swap the launch and nitro in pins at the connector, or clip-swap-splice the two wires a few inches out? You already have a switch that works and fits mechanically, why go to the trouble of sourcing and adapting something else?
