Crystal Controlled RTC

I've been having problems with my RTC (see post in general support section), and I recently came across a very small board with a clock and battery on it that's about the same size as the one I bought with my kit, but this one is crystal controlled and costs less than $5. It's a Tiny RTC from I2C Modules, and has the following connections: SQ, DS,SCL, SDA, VCC,GND and BATT.

At first glance, this seems like a less expensive and more accurate arrangement, but I'm wondering if you think it will work with the firmware (1.41).

It depends on the chip used. They are not all compatible

The MS3 RTC does have a crystal. And make sure you do use a fresh battery.

As Jean says, the realtime clock is crystal controlled already. If you elect to use a different chip, you'll likely need to write new firmware to support it as it is very unlikely to have the same I2
