Feature Request: "Toggle" Datalog

Post by aidandj »

Not sure if this is possible, or simple. But would it be possible to use a switch input for logging, instead of a momentary button?

Turn switch on: Datalog starts
Turn switch off: Datalog starts

Would make it possible to not need an LED for knowing when you are logging. And easier to just flip it on if you need to try and catch something going on.

You can already. If you go to "Data logging" -> "Triggered Logging", you can setup parameters with which to start and stop logging based on a hardware switch, internal data, or an expression.

And that will log to the SD card?

I also can't find the "Datalog" input in the trigger list.

Yup, interal datalog to the SD card.

The hardware switches are based on the port statuses.

Nope, automatic triggered logging is only for TS datalogging, not for the SD card datalogging. I still like your idea, as the toggle switch also acts as a visual indicator that you have actually enabled logging, without having to use an output for a LED (Yes, I understand that the LED will also tell you that the ECU is actually logging, ie you haven't forgot to insert an SD card!).

Yeah... I clearly had a brainfart there.

Datalogging -> SD Card Datalogging

It almost works btw. Flip it on and the datalog starts. And you can keep it on. But to turn it off you have to toggle the switch off, then on again, then off.

If James or Ken could weigh in on this and whether its a possibility that would be awesome.

Otherwise I'm going to go rewire my junk. :D

My car is a street car, and always having the datalog flashing can be really annoying, especially at night. But without the datalog output I don't have a way of knowing its logging or not (because of the button pushes required), with a toggle switch you always know if its logging or not (unless there is an error)

Any chance of an option to change the light output? To on when logging, and off when not logging?

Or I guess even a way to invert the LED output. Flashing when logging, off when read? I could probably do that with hardware.

Ended up solving the problem a round about way.

Send the sd card status to my iq3s. Turn on warning light when sd card status is logging.

Problem solved.

You can use a programmable output instead if you don't want the blinking LED. Test for SD_status & 8.
