MS3X CPU fault...?

Post by ae86drftr »

Hi everyone. I am attempting to finish the last tidbits on my MS3X build controlling a 4AG 20 valve engine. The MS3X is running the MS3 format 0524.05 firmware. Initially I had the COPs wired to the X card outputs and unfortunately I had my wiring incorrect. I corrected my wiring and now I am not able to get any spark output in the test mode of Tunerstudio. I do have an additional MS3X that I pulled the CPU out of and installed into the above mentioned MS3X for the 4AG and with it installed I am able to get spark. Is there any way to repair this processor? Who can I get ahold of for this type of repair? Any input will be greatly appreciated!

That's not a firmware version... see the title bar of TunerStudio.

From what you've said I can't tell if that's an MS3 card issue or MS3X card. Mostly likely the MS3X. Can you swap them between the ECUs and see where the fault goes?

Sorry. I knew when I was typing it that it wasnt correct.... I have 1.4.1 installed on it. I will refer to it as Megasquirt A and the "extra" Megasquirt that I own (which is for a turbo 4G63) I will refer to as Megasquirt B. I have not attempted to install the MS3 cpu from MS3X A into the MS3X B. I have only done the opposite. I took the cpu from Megasquirt B and installed it into Megaquirt A and that is how everything functioned correctly. One thing I did notice and found quite odd was that when I had the MS3X A with its "faulty" cpu card in place I would attempt to test the spark output and the battery voltage gauge would oscillate from 11.5 or so to 13 or so. I am not sure if this helps any however it is better than not knowing about it.

How about swapping the MS3X. That's more likely to be the issue as it has the output drivers on it.

Hmmm. I never thought about that. If I do that would I need to re-upload the firmware as I did with the cpu?

So, after swapping in the expansion card from MS3X B to MS3X A I have the same results. However what I found interesting was that swapping in the CPU card from MS3X B to MS3X A did not change the results. I decided to try it with both the expansion and Cpu originally purchased for my MS3X A and the results were the exact same as with the known good CPU and expansion board from the MS3X B. I feel the harness may be hiding something that I didnt account for to find the problem. I will keep yall posted.
