MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
To announce the release of "MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7" this adds some improvements over "MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 6".
Who should use this code?
Users wanting to test the new features or as directed by tech support to workaround known issues in 'release' version.
Who should not use this code?
Unless directed by tech support, new or casual users should use the current release code instead – see the Downloads page linked above.
Main changes since pre-1.5.1 beta6 firmware
Bug fixes:
Allow HD32-2 / oddfire / WastedCOP (false config error)
Make it so if CL idle disables because IDLE state goes away, when idle comes back on, the valve position makes sense.
New / changed features:
SDcard:
- Tweak baud rate drop behaviour.
- Add more internal retries for SDcard reads in readback.
- Add retry during FAT scan phase.
- Add indicator (SD Warn) for repeated card hardware errors.
- Add workaround for TS reading wrong directory size.
Add VVT PID logging (internal log fields.)
Add MS3 test I/O for D14,15,16, JS11.
Minor / internal:
Use local var for ram_no_cyl in init to save space.
The firmware zip is available from:
http://www.msextra.com/downloads/dev/ms3/1-5-1/beta-7/
Be sure to read the README.txt and RELEASE-NOTES.txt that are supplied in the zipfile.
Some of the ini changes will result in harmless warnings when loading MSQs from 1.4.x
Users upgrading from 1.2.x or earlier codes need to pay more attention.
TunerStudio 3.0.16.6 beta or later is REQUIRED.
TunerStudio 3.0.18.09 beta or later is recommended for reliable SDcard readback.
Go ahead and use the built-in firmware loader on the Tools menu of TunerStudio 3.0.x - you'll like it.

Loaded this firmware last night, drove the car to work this morning, and... very boring. It just works.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
Upgraded just now from beta 4 to beta 7. Not run car yet. Required fuel had doubled, and the units had changed to imperial. I cancelled, went back in and they were metric. Required fuel value then corrected itself

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
I've done a few trips this afternoon since moving to beta 7. I think you've nailed it James and Ken. Idle valve didn't misbehave at all. Engine didn't fall through set point, engine didn't randomly idle high for a few seconds. I've been wrestling with reliable return to idle for years.
I think that this item in the release note has been causing me some grief recently:
"Make it so if CL idle disables because IDLE state goes away, when idle comes back on, the valve position makes sense."

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
I've been running this since you posted it: So far so good
I don't daily the car, but I do take it out every day to work on my tune.
I had an issue with 1.5.1b6 where TS wasn't able to connect because of a protocol error (had to do a few reflashes to get communication back): That hasn't happened again
- The protocol error issue started after an error was encountered while trying to download some SD logs
SD Log downloads have been solid. I wish they ran at "full usb" speed... but we are working through a serial connection
I have had some TS disconnects while running VEAL (3 that I can recall over the course of 7+ days of road tuning)
- Car still runs, SD logs are continuous... so I don't think ECU is cutting out
- Laptop's a newer core i5, SSD, with only TS running
- I was not also logging through TS, I've been downloading SD logs at the end each session
I switched from open to closed loop idle with this release: That's gone well. Working better for me than when I tried it with 1.5.0
- I do have the impression that the dashpot adder accumulates... Say I sit at idle and CL settles at 40 steps. I go for a long run and I'm on and off the throttle a bunch working on AE and overrun and finally come to a stop. Now CL starts at 80. Not the end of the world... car idles high until CL corrects the steps back down.
- I have CL set to Use Last Value
Thanks for the work you all do! MS has been great to work with. I've learned a lot along the way.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
This has been working well for me on my turbo rotary with staged injection. My previous wacky issues were something unrelated to the firmware to put it simply.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
i upgraded to this version over the weekend.
OMG my idle now behaves as it should, was even able to lower the idle to something normal and it is just rock stable smooth.
Everything else works fine also

I'm planning on promoting this to "1.5.1 release" in the next few days.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
I can report no issues as well. As others have mentioned, idle control is back and better than ever.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
James has anything else changed on with this firmware,
I have not touched the map at all, but the cold starts are so much better.
was i chasing a tuning problem where it was just the idle control ?

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
Is the 1.5.1 release code any different from this? Or in other words, if I'm already running beta 7 is there any point in updating?

I changed a couple of tooltips, but that's about it.

Hi James!
Can you add a Lotus Can bus Broadcast in beta firmware? Is important for my application, drive without instruments is difficult
Bye, Luca

How hard would it be to add options for MAF size, some under 650g/s would be useful for smaller MAFs

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
Not sure why you guys are posting in this topic? beta 7 has been superceded now and 1.5.1 released.

Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
probably two reasons:jsmcortina wrote:Not sure why you guys are posting in this topic? beta 7 has been superceded now and 1.5.1 released.
James
this is the development forum.
this is the code we are running, just happens to be same fw as 1.5.1, other than one tooltip.
Has been bulletproof in daily driver since day after it was posted.
Transition to idle is noticeably better, something got fixed, even if by accident, thank you.
Always doing things the hard way, MS2 sequential w/ v1.01 mainboard, LS2 coils. 80 mile/day commuter status.
Re: MS3 pre-1.5.1 beta 7 firmware released
Is there any chance you guys will be releasing the source code for this?
