can the ms3 run a vw agz VR5 motor

hi there, been searching the net so far with no avail. can the ms3+ms3x run a vw vr5 engine, engine code AGZ? its a 5 cylinder w motor. here is some info on it

i got a friend that wants a new ecu and is thinking of the squirt.

can anyone that has done this before please advise? thanks.

Looking at the tech article, I _think_ that it could be done. Being a factory Motronic controlled engine it most likely has a 60-2 tooth crank trigger and the cam wheel is supported by poll mode. The only thing I see that will be tough is the throttle. You can get a rough sort of control of idle by using PWM to control the built in idle motor but it's not ideal as it really needs a bi-directional servo controller. Coils should be easy, intake runner control no problem.

Well I have done a bunch of vr6s and a few Audi 5's but this is a new one.

60-2 vr sensor on the crank and the cam is a hall. You will use poll level sensing on the cam. Obviously using cop and the stock coil has igniters built in so it can be driven from the 3x directly.

It appears to behave as a regular even-fire 5 cylinder. The doc doesn't mention but the crank wheel is likely to be 60-2. The cam signal will need to be configured as "poll-level"

this is great news, i bet we can figure out the throttle strategy once we get it running.

i will undertake the job and let him know what he wants is very possible with the ms3+ms3x

There have been lots of discussion on the throttle valve, open loop pwm can be made to work just not the best solution.

i'll start desoldering the stock ecu tonight to make the jump harness

Actually I found closed loop PWM worked better for me
