Trigger Wheel choice

Post by wa2zkd »

I am starting to plan a build for use on a 2-cyl 4-stroke motor and I need some advice on trigger wheel choices. I'd like to run the ignition and EFI all off the cam. Ideally, I'd like a pretty small wheel. I can fabricate (water jet) any wheel so what's my best bet.

I'll guess this has been asked before but the forum search didn't help me.

there are lots of real-world examples of cam-trigger referenced engines and controllers, and in my opinion its a compromise right from the start.

but, presuming there is no way to get a crank referenced pickup, then some more details might help. what injection and ignition configuration are you thinking?

^^^ +1 on preferring a crank wheel; the cam will never be quite as accurate.

At the cam, what max diameter wheel would you like to use?

Never going to be as good as a crank one due to slop in the drive.
Might be worth saying what engine it is since someone may have already fitted a crank sensor to one.
