I am in the process of refining a design for a cam position sensor for my engine (SOHC 4 cylinder) that will involve drilling a hole in my upper timing cover for a VR sensor and bolting a single "tooth" in the form of a sheet metal flag to the front face of my cam gear. This is in preparation for going to sequential control as soon as I can get my hands on a MS3.
Are there any requirements for placing the cam position sensor relative to the crank wheel? I'm running a 36-1 crank wheel and want to make sure that I position the cam sensor correctly as drilling multiple holes in my timing cover is not a good option...
I was going to start with the sequential alpha code on MS2-extra but now that my car is parked for the winter I will wait for MS3.
I have searched this forum and the MS2-extra forum and have not found a clear answer on this question about correct cam position sensor timing relative to crank sensor. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What are the requirements for cam pos sensor timing?
With a missing tooth crank wheel, the best position is so that the cam sensor triggers a few teeth before the missing tooth. The exact position is unimportant, but what is critical is that it does not happen at the same time as the missing tooth. Otherwise you could be in a situation where sometime the cam triggers before and sometimes it triggers after the missing tooth which would cause a loss of syncronisation.

Re: What are the requirements for cam pos sensor timing?
Thank you, that is exactly the information I needed. I will position the cam position sensor so it sees the cam "tooth" maybe 2 or 3 crank teeth before the missing tooth on the crank gear. One hole in my timing cover is plenty...
